The top two teams in Division 6-5A will battle tomorrow night in Slidell for a chance at a district championship! Northshore is coming off a great 3-0 start in their second round of district play and sit only one game back of St. Paul's from the top position. Their only district loss came to St. Paul's away, 1-0. St. Paul's has continued strong in the second round of district play after a disappointing semi-final loss in their Invitational tourney over Christmas break. However, St. Paul's looks to validate that they are still the cream of the crop in this division, but Northshore will be looking to change recent history.
Game looks to be played on Northshore's grass field, with a game time temperature set for around 50 and 30% chance of rain. Who do you think will win?

This Tuesday should be an interesting one. St Pauls and Northshore will be fighting for the district championship in District 6 Division I. If you don't have anything planned for Tuesday night, this is definitely the game that you need to attend. This game will definitely have playoff implications involved with it. Two teams that definitely hate each other. Northshore is coming off of a 3-2 win against an improved Covington team and also a 2-0 win at Mandeville (played at Lakeshore due to bad field conditions) improving their record to a fabulous 13-2-3. Their only losses have come to #10 Baton Rouge (2-1) and #5 St. Pauls (1-0). They have looked pretty strong at moments during the season, but they do have some flaws. If Northshore wants to compete with St. Paul's St., everyone of their players must have their best game possible and leave it all on the field. St. Paul's on the other hand is coming off a 7-0 victory against Slidell and a 4-0 victory against Ponchatoula improving their record to an even better record than Northshore at 15-2-1. St. Pauls is definitely deserving of a top 5 spot in the rankings. Some believe that they should be higher, but thats another thought. When these two teams played back in December, it got very chippy at the end with two players from Northshore being ejected with red cards. I think that St. Pauls takes this game 3-0 just because Northshore tends to fold in the big games and their lack of experience is going to affect them in this one. They are definitely deserving of a top 15 ranking, but I don't see their defense and their team beating an all-around stud St. Paul's squad who is much more skilled and prepared for this game then the Northshore squad. I wish #17 and the Northshore Panthers good luck, but this one may not be pretty at all and could get ugly. Again, St. Pauls 3-0

This should be a great game. From what I hear, Northshore has been red hot lately and only improving. I think they pull an upset and win a close one 2-1

This definitely has "Game of the Week" written all over it..........BUT ....... weather may be an issue. Fields at Northshore may not be playable. Should have more info as the afternoon unfolds tomorrow. ALSO.......rumor has it that Northshore #17 will not play.
If they do play, this should be a St. Paul's win..... Easily...... how many goals is unimportant...... Northshore lack of solid fundamentals leaves them with little more than "Louisiana Longball" as an attacking "strategy"......... I'm not hating.....just pointing out that they have limited playing resources and will be playing without their "go-to guy"

with SPS i believe they have around 6 sophomores and 2 freshman who have been playing. unheard of for sps. no doubt sps has improved since they last met northshore 12 or so games ago. based on that and the field conditions if at northshore i say 2-0 sps.

Is #17 for NHS not playing tonight? This would be a HUGE loss if so!

Game on tonight 7pm @ Northshore! No weather-related threats will hamper this playoff-atmosphere match from happening!

Must apologize, my rumor source was mistaken and got numbers confused. The word is Stearns (#?) will not be playing. #17 should be on hand.
This should prove to be quite a match with very interesting playing conditions. I still think St. Paul"s will prevail! not sure by how much though.

...<crickets>...
No surprise...No one here at this game (or, at least, that are willing to report...)!
52F on a very foggy night...on an extremely muddy-looking pitch! The fans are out tonight, especially the NHS student section reppin'!
SPS in blue long-sleeved tops w/yellow #s, yellow shorts, blue socks w/yellow stripe at top.
NHS w/white long-sleeved tops & dark navy #s & shorts, white socks.
Game started at 7:26pm due to the ladies' match beforehand. So, of course, pitch is muddier & slippier than if men played first. But, chivalry is apparently not forgotten here in Slidell (not think it would've mattered anyway...)!

1 or 2 sluggish opps for SPS already, w/1-2 opps for NHS as well. None of the above really dangerous or on frame yet.
NHS #17 is playing up top instead of normal midfield position due to some lineup rearranging that had to happen.
SPS #26 takes shot from just out box on left side that curled in to far post, gk getting in position to fall on decent shot.
NHS w/opp on counterattack going into box but slipped as taking shot, easily collected by SPS gk.
SPS pressed in again but great individual defensive effort by NHS #11 to fend off a couple of Wolves & eventually cleared.
SPS soon w/another effort, this time great shot by SPS #20(?), sweet diving save by gk.
A bit later another shot by SPS that gk easily gets a handle on.
A corner by SPS leads to CR taking a dive in box (perhaps slipped, perhaps on purpose?) to avoid heading the ball. Funny!
0-0 so far!
Much pressure by SPS so far!

SPS earns free kick just outside box in middle, taken by #16 who doesn't capitalize on opp.
Soon after, NHS #10 gets taken down on near side of pitch by SPS player just short of midfield. No foul called, much to chagrin of #10 & NHS fans. And, sure enough, as I predicted, NHS #10 was upset enough to hustle back down sideline back into play which had carried on w/out him, & barreled/shouldered SPS player enough just outside of NHS box to be called for foul/issued YC for retaliation I suppose. You could see it coming a mile away!
Fortunately for NHS, no pk & free kick opp went unrealized for SPS.

Intensity picking up out there, as everybody is getting muddy & wet & slipping...
At just over 21min left in half, SPS #7 presses hard into box w/ball colliding w/NHS defender, no call, SPS #7 recomposes himself & gets off sweet finishing goal!
SPS 1-0 NHS in 1st half.

NHS #17 gets thru ball leading into box, but his shot in traffic comes up short, seemed to be looking for foul, not happening but they did get corner kick opp on play.
On the above corner kick, taken from the left corner by NHS #17(?), went low & in area where in traffic jam, NHS #1 gets equalizer for the Panthers, at just over 18min left in half.
Now we got a game!
SPS 1-1 NHS in 1st

SPS w/another opp that lazily goes to gk. Soon after, NHS w/another opp, dangerous in traffic of SPS box, but they come up short.

NHS gets throwin deep around 16yd line right into area, but CR called something that allowed SPS to have goal kick. Guess it went out of bounds.
Soon after, NHS w/another opp to #4 off a lob/long ball, but AR called I believe #4 for using hands to establish position (or maybe he was offsides?), giving ball back to SPS.
A bit later, SPS #16 w/good shot handled by gk.
A while later, opp again by SPS on right side near end line shot that gk gets to.
Later on, SPS #16 pushing dangerously into box along left side, finally crossing in near end line, ball unbelievably passing across mouth of goal in area untouched but eventually a SPS gets foot on it by the far post but weak attempt reined in by gk.
Whew!
1-1 still...

NHS w/another opp but SPS gets to easy chance.
Soon after, SPS gets off shot to upper right 90 that gk gets finger on, leading to SPS corner. Nothing comes of that.
1-1 w/less than 1 to half.

SPS w/shot again.
A bit later in stoppage time (I guess for SPS #3 earlier injury), SPS #10 along left upper corner of box crosses dangerous pass in box that comes up short (gk got to it I think on that one?).
Still in stoppage, SPS again dangerous thru ball sweet feed deep in box to SPS #7 whose push shot swallowed up by gk. Punted away, then finally a half whistle blown.
Great battle so far, given the circumstances! SPS controlling possession mostly organized (as best as possible w/field), but NHS frustrating them often & resorting to counterattacks up to #17 typically. Call them long balls if you like, but many are pretty accurately landing in his area as he's on the run. But then swarming SPS defense.
Half: SPS 1-1 NHS
