I thought Doughty was a midfielder.

I pretty much copied that from the Shreveport Times. I'm not completely sure what grade Tim is in.
Doughty played a little bit of everything this year. He played every position against us, I believe, although I think his natural and best position is defense.
I felt like there were some players who got the short end of the stick on this, but that's how it goes I guess.
A few players I think worth mentioning: Dom McAtee - Parkway - D/M - Senior Dylan Cassel - Captain Shreve - D - Senior Hong Cho - Captain Shreve - M - Junior? Cameron Kadkhodai - Caddo Magnet - M/F - Junior Christian Seynos - Parkway - D - Senior

I don't know anything about the criteria for either of the honors in question, but I'll speculate that it's likely different voters with different opinions.
That's probably also how 1 coach wins All-District and a different one (from the same district) wins All-City.

A lot easier to look good as a coach when you have an abundance of talent on your team.
Personally, I was a little disappointed with some of the selections. More importantly, the "non" selections.
Would have liked to have seen Hong Cho and Michael Birmingham included in the all city team.

The writer for the Shreveport Times selects this team, with the insight of a few coaches opinion.
Also, to flyright... This happened my sophomore year in high school when a guy named Carter Rosset made second team all district, but 1st team all city. He was deserving of the title. Just kind of depends on how the writer eanta to select the team.

Newspapers select teams based on their readership distribution area. Gotta have somebody in every area where they sell papers. Also, rarely do you have a sportswriter who has seen alot of soccer games, or has much soccer knowledge, so the guy will get help from one or more coaches. Gannet cuts staff to the bone to maximize profits, and the guy down here covering games was a freelancer, who had to ask the fans who the players were.
Be glad they even bother to put together a team. Once Gannet fires everybody local we'll all have to read USA Today.

I didn't think anyone under 50 still reads newspapers. (Online readership only.) Easy to see why. Knowing how Gannett operates.

The newspaper staff makes the All-City Selection without ANY input from a coach(es)? What a joke...... upper90Aside from Barcelona, do you agree with ALL the other selections that were made on your team and the positions for 1st and 2nd team All-District? Did your head coach not battle for his players?

You're also forgetting a non-stop workhorse in senior defender Howard Schneider from Airline. Probably their most consistent and arguably best player. Not taking anything away from the other players, But Schneider was definitely deserving.

Airline gave up 41 goals this season. 19 in district play. Factor in that their nondistrict schedule was watered down and it's hard to talk about their 'defensive prowess'.
Now, it could be that they only had one strong defender and their keeper was weak.
In my opinion, Airline "overachieved" in both the all city and all district teams.
Matt Hanisee in my opinion was the only Airline player that legitimately deserved to make all city.
Like I've said countless times, we need to get away from using purely subjective criteria to evaluate player performance.
If you can't 'quantify...you don't 'qualify'...

For me I think the biggest omission from this list is JW Cox. He didn't have much around him this year at Byrd but to say he isn't one of the top 10 players in Shreveport is almost silly.

That was a name I was surprised not to see. But how much did he contribute for Byrd this year? I heard he wasn't there for majority of the first part of the season.

No question JW isn't a top player...in terms of talent.
I think his exclusion was due to him missing some games. Unfortunately, his stats didn't reflect his contribution either.
He stood out like a sore thumb playing for Byrd. Everything went through him. Unfortunately, again, Byrd struggled as a team in district.

Tim Kunkel was actually a junior this year.

I personally don't know anything about Kunkel. I haven't seen him play. (Don't know if he plays club ball or not.)
But Calvary certainly isn't known for playing high level footy. Plus their district is fairly weak.
Regarding Airline...sorry, Matt Hanisee is the only 'deserving' player that made it.
You pick the best players. Period. End of story.

hall97 You’re completely right about Calvary having a super weak district. It’s actually probably one of the worst in the state. As for Tim Kunkel as a player, he’s well rounded. He isn’t flashy but rather very fundamental and usually extremely consistent. Considering the talent pool in Shreveport/Bossier I believe that it isn’t a stretch for him to make the All-City team. He is definitely not an elite player but like I said he is solid. I only say this is because I am actually his older brother. I was proud and excited to hear that he had made it the team. Congrats to everyone else that made it.

JW missed a couple games in the beginning of the season due to injury, then left towards the end of the season to move to Houston for a couple of weeks to play with the Houston Dynamo Youth Program. He then moved back because he didn't like the coach. But yeah I don't know how he didn't make this squad. And what about Christain Mudd, Byrd's keeper? He kept us in most games, we never really got killed this year because of him he is a great keeper.
