I watched 8 games on Friday afternoon and Saturday and saw some great soccer. Ruston, St. Louis and St. Martin all played solid games. I didn't get to see Alexandria except from a distance. However, in terms of overall play I have to give the edge to Vandebilt. I'll be surprised if they don't "take it all" today. And kudos to the tournament coordinators and referee assignor for being flexible and creative and putting on a great tournament despite the challenges posed by the weather. Can I call 'em, or what??

OK where do I start? I know, first THANKS Chad for the pass the food and the hospitality. I don’t think anybody in the state can say they put on a better tournament than the COPA!!! It was great to finally meet some of the board members in person, especially the guys from Deridder. Here are just a few of my thoughts. First Vandy, St Louis and maybe just maybe ASH are in the lead in D3 and the rest are casing. Here is a list of teams that in one way or another impressed me this week. Ruston!! Great job coach, Neville, ASH, St Martin, Parkway, and yes Fifastreet Deridder too. Oh don’t mean to leave out Holy Cross. The two best teams met in the semis with Vandy and St Louis going at it. ASH gave Vandy a game but I think the semi’s was a look at what may be the finals in D2.
As far as the coach from St Louis, don’t bash him to hard. The man works the refs hard and is passionate about the game and his team. Trust me it isn’t the first time he has been sent off and it won’t be the last. One thing you can’t argue with is the success of his program! A special shout out to my friends from Vandy looks like the goalie and his cousin came through BIG!!!!! I know David, Debbie, and Dana are very proud of the two young men. Hope to see Yall on the pitch and good luck to everyone. In closing I want to say don’t count out my boys from Beau Chene and Teurlings, if you do they will kick you in the bu##.

I composed this post in my mind on the way home from Lafayette last night, and later I decided not to send it. However, on reflection it needs to be said. I was disappointed in the conduct of a few of the coaches at the Copa Tournament (a minority, but more than one). I understand "working the referees" and I understand "passion for the game". But seriously... coaches are supposed to be role models for their players in many ways, including how to deal with tension, frustration, and yes, even unfairness and injustice. In my opinion... and I say this with no one particular in mind... any coach who acts out to the extent that he gets sent off more than once every five years (OK... maybe two years) has no business working with young people. With respect to the poster, "Look at the success of his program" is a poor response.

ruston really stepped it up this tournament, and i think derrider got a good wake up call. st louis vs vandy could be a preview of the state finals with the teams playing the way they are

I could not agree more, northlasoccerdad. It really is a shame when an adult who is supposed to set an example for his players acts out like that. What an embarrassment for not only the players of the program, but for the parents as well. There really is no excuse for being ejected from a high school soccer game. Not only does this set a bad example for your players, it also leaves them vulnerable without a head coach for the reamainder of the game. Certain actions should have ramifications, because this is clearly not what high school soccer is about.

You are correct in saying the coach is (should be) a role model, especially from a Catholic School.

northlasoccerdad, if you are going to quote me do it right. I said, "One thing you can’t argue with is the success of his program!" If you would like to debate his record just tell me when and where!

Everyone at Copa heard the St Louis Coach. It was as if the whole complex went silent just for his rant. No doubt he has a great record but what came out of his mouth was an absolute disgrace. There were young children everywhere. You could not count how many F's came out of his mouth. We all know it happens in sports at every level but this was a complete disgrace not only to High School Soccer but to the sport itself. It was just too much and something needs to be done about it. Sorry but I had to post something about it. Not a very good role model for young men, it's as simple as that
I would be interested to hear some comments from St Louis parents as they have to be embarrased by the situation. And if this is the norm from this coach then maybe it's about time the parents did something about it. I mean winning records are great but isn't a coach meant to be a teacher - what is he teaching players and not only his own!
