ATON ROUGE -- The former commissioner of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association failed to properly document 2,355 transactions totaling $383,073 on the organization's credit card from 2005-2007, including charges for personal items, more than $51,000 at cigar outlets and $13,000 for clothing, the state legislative auditor reported Monday. www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2010/09/former_louisiana_high_school_a.htmllhsaa is going down

so why is there an lhsaa?
why do they think they're a private company?
the lhsaa should be taken over by the state and run by the state. these fat cats can't profit off the schools while the schools are laying off teachers.

"Henry made 182 charges totaling $51,614 at 12 different cigar merchants, including the Tinder Box in Metairie, Churchill's Premium Cigars in Baton Rouge and the Cigar Merchant in Lafayette. He sometimes entertained state representatives with alcohol and cigars at Churchill's but most of the $17,593 charged there was for cigars, the audit said."
what is the lhsaa doing wining and dining state reps?
sounds like bribery to allow the lhsaa to remain private so it's leaders can keep getting rich off schools.

Arrogance:
Have any of you had dealings with the LHSAA? The new Commissioner and his assts. are about as arrogant and dismissive of “the little people” as Tommy Henry was. Their attitude toward the “little people” is dismissive… and the little people included Athletic Directors, Principals, and coaches.
Last year, Someone totally dropped the ball on the soccer playoffs and was as ugly and dismissive as a person could be when confronted. The person basically told us to take a hike with our silly complaint that the LHSAA was not following their own rules
When certain basketball coaches complained about the silly rating system the LHSAA has adopted, they were cut off in mid presentation by the Comminsionser himself in the most discourtious way possible.
The principals need to vote these people out, completely clean house. edit: please remember while discussing stuff as this, we don't personally attack anyone. Let's stay on topic about former commissioner Tommy Henry and this news. Thanks

paid for by your schools fees and at the ticket gate high school coaches, want to know why your pay is so low? part of the reason are the big wigs at lhsaa who think the money that you and your kids make is all theirs. The only people required to keep receipts and accurate counts in this "quasi public" entity are the member school coaches, parents and volunteers collecting, balancing and then handing over the gate to the LHSAA. Seems wrong to me. I am not certain the right answer is to allow "powerful school" administrators to take charge.

The Advocate has something today: www.2theadvocate.com/news/latest/103906429.htmlI especially like the quote from Kenny Henderson, "Kenny Henderson, LHSAA’s current executive director — the new title for the commissioner’s position held by Henry — said LHSAA’s board has known about the questionable expenditures since June 2007, when the federal Internal Revenue Service began asking questions and conducting its own audit. Henderson said the board has taken no action against Henry because the IRS has not completed its audit. “The IRS has said it’s trying to determine whether to consider this salary,” Henderson said of Henry’s expenditures. “If it is salary, then they’ll be asking for income taxes,” Henderson added. “I don’t think they care whether it was fraudulent; the IRS is only worried about whether it’s going to get any money.” So not paying your taxes is not a crime but just a shakedown from the goons at the IRS?

Frankly, I can't believe anyone is surprised at all this. This type of corruption isn't new.
Especially given Louisiana's political history.
Each sport should have equal representation. Soccer people should 'govern' and set policy for prep soccer.
Not bureaucrats or politicians.
