Going to do like my long lost friend, co worker, relative, etc... Lojic. I am going to give a long winded opinion of something. Today I tackle Copa Acadiana's Premier Division.
I think Group C is a killer. All groups are difficult in this tournament, but how difficult always remains to be seen. Northlake is, along with Newman, the top team to beat in D3. St. Louis is always St Louis. Sure they lost a lot of seniors, but I tend to believe that they will still be a top 3 team in D2. Cathlic New Iberia is a tough team to read. They lost a few quality players but have a ton returning. Legitimate top 5 team in a weak D3. St. Michael? Always tough defensively. How much attack can the have on these 3 teams? Group C is the group of death.
SOme may say at first glance that B looks hardest. I almost think it may be the easiest? ALexandria just got crushed, albeit by Lafayette High. Still, a top ranked team shouldn't get smashed like that. E.D. White tied Thibodeaux? Lost 3 starters last year plus another was mentioned as hurt in football on another thread. THey won't sneak up on anyone this season. Episcopal BR may be the best team in that group. They are tremendously underrated in the poll. Watch for them. COuntry Day is not the same team from last year. As the weakest team in this group, it will be interesting to see if they can rebuild quickly.
A is a solid group. Beau Chene is current 2 in D2 and could be 1 by next week after Alexandria's loss. Have one of the best finishers in the state in Hollier. University is highly ranked in D3, but are they deserving? Early season is always helped by set pieces and I think you may have 2 of the best set piece teams in those 2. Last year, University made the finals of Copa. St. Martin's is always a quality squad. Have a stud in Piers Cropp. Can they replace the best goal keeper in the state from last year? Lakeshore is the big unknown. A team that took Alexandria to PKs in the playoffs last year. Returns everyone. Could they be the favorite? ALL 4 teams can win this group and I don't expect a sweep from the winner.
Group D. Will Teurlings huge football success hurt their Copa chances? Probably. IF they are full strength, they will give Vandebilt a run for their money. Vandebilt, rebuilt on the run and quietly last year. Young squad led by veterans like Watson, Yancy, and Teuton. They must contain Teurlings Cunningham to have a chance. Cunningham is the best CM in the state in this fan's opinion. Bolton will have a huge say on who wins this group. Heard through my sources that they have a lot of nagging injuries. Their biggest question mark is defending and especially Goal Keeper. If they improved on this from last season, then they are set to do great things this year. Very possession oriented team. Lutcher is at first look, the odd team in the upper division. Do they belong? Seems like a Neville (I know that football is the reason why they don't play up, but still), East Jeff, ESA or Menard should have been in the top division. Anyone know the reasons why they aren't? WIth that said, I have seen many teams that at first glance shouldn't be in top divisions of tournaments go on to win the group. Lutcher has a solid forward. Could shock the group?

DeRidder will move to premier bracket. St Fred's girls will be added to girls bracket. The girls bracket will be redone and there will be a couple of slight changes to the premier bracket.
For the now open spot in the Gold bracket, I have one team checking with their AD to see if they can make it. This team is a playoff division II team and I really hope they can get here. If not them, I have a local Divsion III team that has accepted the spot should the first team not get permission to attend. So either way, I should have the announcement tonight along with the changes made to the brackets.

Updated Copa Brackets.
DeRidder to the Premier Division. Moved Lakeshore to group C and placed DeRidder in Group A. Easiest and most balanced way to fix this without starting from scratch. We considered 3 other moves and none of them were feasible due to having regular season rematches (some multiple) and also unfairly changing requests.
St Fredericks Girls replaced Catholic NI and we redid the girls bracket entirely.
For the Gold Division, we are adding Belle Chasse directly into DeRidders spot. They are 90% in. If principal doesn't ok it for any reason, then we will add Lafayette Christian instead and move them to group F and move Menard into Group H. This is to avoid district mate Westminster plus use Lafayette Christian for a second Friday game that need to avoid a schedule conflicting Saturday at noon. They would play Morgan City in the first game of tournament as MC needs a second Friday game as well. So that is where we stand. Hope to finalize the last team by Friday morning along with actual game times and schedule.

You misspelled Thibodaux, and just as EDW was missing plenty of starters for their first couple of matches, I'm sure others were too. I don't think games like EDW's tie to THS holds much water.

I'm really looking forward to the trip to Laffayette for this tournament and hopefully I'll be able to catch a couple of games other than ours. Some great teams in this thing. If any of you see a portly fellow wearing a beat up old white 2003 Lutcher cap and toting sheets for taking stats, a camera bag, an I-pad, and who knows what else, come over and say hi. I answer to the name Darryl in real life. (unfortunately, I'll probably only be there Friday since I have to get home early Saturday morning)

Strange - schedule shows Neville forfeiting to Northlake at the same time they are playing Op. Cath. Hummm... I see that Neville and Northlake aren't in the same division, or bracket.
Must have been a pre-arranged side game or something.
Stranger still - on Sat., Northlake has games against Teurlings and Lutcher, who don't seem to be in their bracket. And Neville is playing Lutcher and and uhhhh.... er .... oh heck... let everyone play everyone.
And St. Louie seems to have a tough situation at 4 PM Friday... they are playing both St. Mike's and ESA at the same time on different fields. I know they are good and have a huge team, but this could be a little tough to coach.

Us old times have to stick together. I was having the same kinds of questions myself when I first read it till the little (b) and (g) symbols clicked in my mind.

Am I wrong to assume these are 35min halves with 5min halftime break? Thanks! M 25 minute halves I think. I certainly hope you're wrong! That would likely NOT be worth the road trip for the M if that's the case...They surely could get away with 30min halves & not have to resort to 25min, no? Are you planning on going??
