I know last year y'all had a band playing at State Finals. I think that's a super cool idea. I'd love for MS to do it- we have a strong blues culture here. I come from an area where it is really prevalent and grew up on it; I love it. And I'd love to hear it in between games.
How was this proposed to LHSAA? Or, who called the shots?
I want to put that bug in their ears for next year. I'm not a coach, but I do have a lot of friends that are coaches and a lot of contacts in the soccer community. Our Athletic Association likes to spend as little of money as possible on soccer- not sure if yours is more agreeable or whatever. So I know I'd have to sell it like this is going to be a money-making opportunity.
Any advice on how to sell it, or insight into how the idea came up and was implemented?

I'm not sure how the idea came up, but the first musical concert at our championships was held in 2011 with Deacon John performing between the Division I girls and boys state championship games. 2011 was the year that the two of the three championships returned to New Orleans. The musical act may have been part of the bid the New Orleans delegation used to sway the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) to select New Orleans as a championship host site instead of Pineville. But it was probably not the main reason -- New Orleans also guaranteed each participant team $1200 and expenses.
If different sites bid for the championships in Mississippi, a proposed musical act would be a nice addition to the presentation. There's certainly potential for it to work well.

Agreed on Dr. John- would be awesome! And expensive.
Yeah- we don't rotate sites. Ours stay in one place for a while. Currently it's held in Clinton- at Clinton High. It would be nice for it to rotate... that's the argument from a lot of folks. It's personally better for me if it stays around Jackson because that's where I'm at for the time being. But it's always been around Jackson- central location.
I think it'd be easy to do. I know of a lot of blues acts that would do it pretty cheap. Would love to implement that when I get more time. It'd just be fighting the politics/lack of monetary support.
Was just kind of interested how LHSAA did it/what appealed to them.
