Thanks soccerdad and time2retire for your replies to Lookmanohand, I would not have done a better job. Alto1moms, I agree with you defense usually do not get enough credit for winning games, goalkeepers in particular. We always remember the one time they screw up that lead to a goal and never remember the 10 awesome saves they made before. You had a point about the speed of BF defense that I wanted recognized. I will be at the game saturday and I am sure it will be difficult to judge which one is fastest. Therefore, the difference will be on how BF defense deals with the 2 Vandy strikers and how Vandy defense deals with #8 and the supporting players that will try to attack along with her. I think Barnacle13 has a great point about set pieces, the first one to make a mistake will lose the game I think.

I agree with y'all about defense. It is kind of an unsung hero. Goal keepers may get some glory for their saves but a back line is mostly recognized when they mess up.
I remember an interview with Abby Wambach where she said she only had to be good a couple of times in a game and she was a hero but Hope Solo had to be perfect all game. That's kind of the same for the backline as a whole.
Unfortunately defense seems to get the blame when you lose but little of the glory for a win.

Wow - chalk one up for the defense!! But let's not forget the defense at best can keep a game at Tie (0:0) do unless the offense scores there will be no win!

Hey soccerB have you had the opportunity to be in a State final? He/she wasn't trying to be mean, was asking me a question but just came out the wrong way. No Lookmanohands, H.L Bourgeois is just a small team trying to have as much fun as possible. thanks for inquiring.

Here's my prediction based upon results against a common opponent for both teams, Lakeshore, as well as some other considerations. BF held to one goal in two games against Lakeshore, scored 4 in a third game. So, BF averaged 2 goals a game in 3 games against Lakeshore defense. Vandebilt beat Lakeshore 4-0. Teurlings, which probably doesn't have near the offensive firepower of Vandebilt, still managed 2 goals against BF in their semifinal loss. Hard to imagine a better Vandebilt offense not putting in at least 3 goals, possibly four against BF. So, generally speaking, I say Vandebilt by 2 goals, with final score of either 3-1 or 4-2.

I had to retype my post above and found out that I had inadvertently left out a key sentence (and lengthy) in building my case. The point being that if BF only scored 1 goal in each of two games, and averaged just 2 in three games against a good Lakeshore defense, then I cannot see BF scoring more than 2 against a much stouter Vandebilt defense. Finally, Vandebilt rosters like what, 25 players, and many of them get time on the pitch without much drop-off in talent, will result in them being much fresher, later into the game. Too much bench for BF.

I think Vandy wins this, but after the great comeback from BF against a very good Teurlings team I think the Falcons are obviously a very tough, resilient team. So I think they'll be able to keep it very close. We'll probably see at least a goal or two on set pieces. I think Vandy wins it 3-2.

Game delayed with 14:04 left in first half. Still 0-0. Teams have been well-matched and it could easily go either way if things continue in the same pattern. Ball slightly more in BF's defensive half, but BF has come close twice, including a golden chance on the last play before the delay. Good low cross from #4, and #8 couldn't quite get a clean connection from inside the 18. Vandy has mainly just been playing balls long to chase with their speed, with no real chance to score yet. Defending has been good from both teams. Again, could go either way. It'll be interesting to see how the delay affects both teams.

NOLA radar shows that we are so close to being in the clear and so close to being soaked. Right now it's just a light drizzle with rumbles of thunder.

lasoccer, You seem to have left out Vandy's 3 most important wins of the season (Mt.Carmel, Fontainebleau, and Sacred Heart). Another Win and Draw against an often-times dangerous Hahnville could also be considered "key" Their two Losses were against Dominican and Mt.Carmel. Not that I believe any of this will affect the result of the game, but it just surprised me to read that you thought neither had a "distinct" advantage in terms of schedule. With those 7 games factored in, I don't think anyone could argue that Vandy had a much tougher schedule. Let me be clear, so that I am not attacked by the Laprep police, tougher schedule does not necessarily = better team/winner of the finals Have no dog in this fight,,,I have been hearing about weak schedules versus tough schedules in a lot of threads in the past weeks in the playoff times. If you want to see who had the hardests schedule,,,,,I believe the power rankings can show the truth!! When you play a tough team and beat them you get 5 points plus points for the wins that they have accumulated! The only thing it does not account for is division,,,,,but sometimes you can have a Div III team that is better than a Div I. One of these teams has a very impressive power ranking for their division! Also there is another thread tucked away around page 7 called top defenses,,,,,, which gives stats on games played versus points allowed,,,,, these factors certainly will not tell us ultimately who will win,,,,,,but for us parents who play the stat game (have to say I love the stat game) and we know who we are! I have to ask what are we going to do When our kids are grown and do not play soccer! I have grown a love for this game,,,,wish the best of luck to both of these teams and to the senior that wins their last game of the high school season in life!

In the last radar loop, it looks like the line shifts slightly southeastward away from the stadium. Hopefully it's not wishful thinking seeing that.
