Saw Cabos, I'd agree. And haven't seen any others, so that shows the depth of my knowledge on this topic.
Just wanting to know kind of where he'd rank so I can kind of imagine the scale. And no, I don't know the kid from Adam, just liked the way he played. Couldn't tell you if he's in college anywhere or anything else, just what I saw in that game.

Don't shoot me on this- I'm certainly not qualified to even comment on this thread, as I've only seen a handful of games period from LA teams. I liked Philip Hicks from Jesuit. He wasn't doing anything super crazy, just consistent and got forward well. I see nobody's mentioned him, so obviously there have been better. But what did you guys think of him? He just kinda stuck out to me. I'd want him on my team. He was the triple crown winner from last season. Gatorade Player of the Year, LHSSCA All-State MVP and LAprep XI MVP. He was definitely a player who stood out to many. It's hard to say for me where he ranks. Probably as one of the better defenders to play the game in Louisiana for sure. Probably could have played DI ball as an outside back or maybe midfielder. Unfortunately he joins the many others who hung up their competitive cleats. Cabos was just a victim of injuries. The kid had an invite to trial with Everton. That LA Fire team was definitely fun to watch.

Thanks. I feel pretty solid in watching kids and rating them, but it's good to see others kind of see the same. I did not know all of that, didn't really keep up with this site much last year. So that's good to hear, and it's late, but congrats to him- I'm sure it was well-deserved.
I did like both. Only saw them in a game, but the talent was undeniable. I'd have him outside back. I thought D1 too. Cabos was good, only saw them both in part of a game- I think he just kind of went through the motions in that game, but you could see it. Liked Charles Mansour, too, but I could see why he wasn't best eleven either. But he was good.

FWIW -I play left forward. On another note...Tony Judice, Andy Frost and Jose (Tato) Landano all desrve a good look. Andy was a two time all-state forward (left footed but has a cannon with his right as well). He chose a family life instead of college ball and is currently a very successful home builder. Tony was a two time all-stater in midfield who plays with the New Orleans Jesters. He was a two year starter on a team that went 24-4-3 i his time as a starter. He also played with Joseph Lapira on the Baton Rouge Capitals and fed him dime balls regularly. He made PDL all conference as well as a Capital. Lastly, Tato Landano was the NCAA Divsison I Northeast USA soccer player of the year for the Evansville Aces. He went on to play professionally with Deportes Tolima in Columbia. He could have easily played in the MLS but turned them down because there was much more money to be made playing out of the country. Since his return to the USA after his career in Columbia, he has played with the Indianapolis Twisters of the CISL, Detroit Rockers of the NPSL, Nashville Metros of the A-League, Wichita Wings of the NPSL, Kansas City Attack of NPSL, the Nashville Rhythm of the A-league, and the Colorado Lightning of the PASL. He also had a long look with the national team but came up short against the likes of John Harkes, Claudio Reyna, Tab Ramos, Roy Wegerle, and Thomas Dooley (these are big names in US soccer history people...look them up!). Outside of Jason Kreis, he may be the most accomplished player in the history of the state in terms of pro/ semi-pro accolades. I remember Jose "Tato" Londono (Covington, 1993) playing with Jason Kreis for the New Orleans Gamblers in the early 90s. They were a very impressive duo up top. He's definitely worthy of being in the middle of this conversation. I'm pretty sure Jason played for the Baton Rouge Jags. Not sure about Tato. The Gamblers weren't formed until '94 or '95.

The New Orleans Gamblers started in 1993 and both Londono and Kreis were on the first Gamblers roster. I think you are referring to club teams. The Gamblers were first a professional team that competed in the USISL. Two years later they expanded to include a youth club program at Lafreniere.

It was a blessing for us to get to play with the Lakeview / LA Fire team that included not only Steven Cabos, but also Adrian McInnis (another of the best midfielders from LA) and Connor Randel. After going to LSU for his first year, Phillip has decided to get back onto the pitch. He has enrolled at UCF in the fall and has a spot on the Golden Knights roster. He has kept active, but will be trying to get onto the Jesters' roster this summer to arrive in Orlando in top shape. Steven has promised to help train him in N.O. this summer. Perhaps we'll see you guys at a Jester's game.

Nick Chetta won adidas player of the year 97-98 was a great forward who scored many goals and helped St.pauls get to three state championships helping them win their first championship as sophomore scoring the first goal of a 2-0 win and helping them win there second state championship the next year and helped them get to there third his senior year but because of a leg injury during the state championship game he had to be pulled out and they lost in overtime 4-1. But even though they did not win his senior year he was a great and a great leader throughout his career at St. Pauls.

Best Old School XI (actually Best Old School XVIII): Baton Rouge United Jags '72
That team could have beaten Timaeus' All Time Best XI
All 18 players went on to play soccer in college. Duke (Jason Kreis), Creighton (Peanut Philson), Georgetown (Peter Couhig and Scott Meares), Furman (Gayden Morgan and Chris Haas), Navy (Doug Williams), Wright State (Shane Jeafreau), Hartwick (George Neofotistos), Philadelphia U (Greg Hardiman), Geneva College (Sean Bird), Howard U (John Delgado) ... there were more but memory fails me twenty plus years later.
MF Shane Jeanfreau was Gatorade Player of the Year but F Peter Couhig (Captain of Catholic HS State Champions) was High School State MVP in 1990, ...yep, two Jags won the awards that year and neither one was the greatest soccer player in louisiana history. Probably because they both scored more goals than their MF Jason Kreis (in HS and for the Jags)! Hard to believe, but true.
I seriously doubt Jason Garey or Patrick Mullins could've worked the channels and gotten behind Peanut, who was the fastest Sweeper in the history of American Soccer (Creighton HOFer). And the D on Timaeus' Best XI would have had no chance against the Jags front six. NO CHANCE!!

Jason Kreis was the best player of all time in Louisiana. Jason Garey would be next. Only those two went on to MLS and competed at a reasonable legitimate high level and Kreis is still involved as a coach and that alone should tell you all you need to know for the Criteria "the best ever produced."

The following year, a merger took place with the Fire (formerly Gamblers) with Carrollton and Lakeview creating a city/region-wide team.

I'd put my money on Garey and Mullins breaking the D line on more than one occasion, but all of us old school, has been or never beens always have a lot to say about "The BEST". I would rather be betting the inferior Mullins signing bonus right now as he laughs at us all the way to the bank!

Tatum Bourque- VCH 93' Belmont Abbey All American. attacker/midfielder! killer instinct and work ethic. now a coaching director for Gaston Soccer club in North Carolina. Myself and Tatum played on the younger team of the infamous 90-91 Baton Rouge Jag Team, which was the runner up in Nationals!
