I've been told that the first field where high school soccer was played was located in Audubon Park, right next to Magazine. Before Katrina, the same goals stood in front of the parking lot of the Audubon Zoo. But after Katrina, those goals were torn down. They may have been torn down by people staging in that area during the rescues. I don't know. Here's a 1987 picture of that field from the Times Picayune. Anyone have any other memories from high school fields back in the day.

March 8, 1964 Erik Rud, captain of New Orleans Soccer Club of the 9 team International Soccer League, asks for new field and stands for soccer teams because the field at Audubon Park is shared with teams from merchant ships. oi42.tinypic.com/538x3a.jpg

When I was at Loyola in the late 70's, early 80's, we would play on three different fields. One was the Audubon Zoo fields referenced by Timeaus, the second was next to the old Tulane Stadium and the third was on the lake front near UNO.
