Will be sending out registration and contract next week. Please let me know if you don't have it by September 1. If you need out, let me know NOW! I can still replace you now if some reason has come up to have you drop out. Otherwise, this will be our largest Copa ever with 52 total varsity teams (32 boys and 20 girls).
Need to solve the issue of the last premier team by next week... Dunham, Leesville, and Haynes coaches... Please one of you volunteer by next week or I will have to Make the choice.
The season is almost upon us!

I sent out all paperwork last week and all of you should have everything. Please have contract, registration and entry fee back by November 1 to avoid being replaced with team from waiting list. If you have not received your packet in email, contact me ASAP!

Wow, Group C is brutal.
Vandy and St. Louis are annual contenders, and Pope has one of the best finishers in the state in Blake Dalferes.
We look forward to the challenge and the opportunity to show that we are legitimate contenders in D-II this season.
Should be another exciting tournament this year. The other groups are stacked, too. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and all the teams will bring their A-games.

This is one tournament that you can go 0-3 and it will help your power rankings.

With 16 teams in each, why not go the play up/ play down cross bracket set up? Either way works but from a competition standpoint, I feel play up/play down is best. Look at how Lakeshore's tourney is set up with their 8 teams. The biggest logistics issue I see would be the number of fields which, doesn't look to be an issue. You seem to have them seeded 1-4. 1 would play 4, 2v 3. Winners advance and play, losers play. Then rwork cross bracket for game #3. The champiosnship match would be game #4. Not criticizing. I am just curious.

WHat makes your group brutal is names. St Louis lost over a dozen seniors. Vandebilt is a young, but very good team. If all the noise that St. Michaels is making about having a state contender is true, then you should win that group? Group B does look a little weak now that Menard and Teurlings appear to be less than thought from preseason. I wonder when these brackets were made, before week 1 results or after. No excuse for teams to come on a prep board like and brag about being great but not play in top division of copa. I know for a fact, from some one on the beau chene side of things, that coach Chad has to beg teams to play up in the top division. ridiculous. Westminster won the lower division last year and refuses to play up? Leesville wants to win state but does't play up? Neville? Hats off to Haynes, Pope John Paul, and Lutcher for playing up. Hope you end up with higher power rating seeds than those who chose to hide in lower bracket for a win.

Copa has a waiting list of 20 or more teams every year. IF they had more fields, it could be a full 64 team tournament for boys and girls and maybe even 16 more in a Division III for boys. Its a perfect bracket of 16 soccer style tournament. if you want basketball or baseballtourney, go to one. If you want to see a perfectly run tournament, take off to Moore Park on first weekend of December and see why there is such a high demand to come to this tournament.

We'll see how it plays out. The "names" have their reputations for good reason.
St. Louis "loses a bunch of seniors" every season, and yet they never suffer even a slight drop in quality. Even in their "rebuilding seasons" they compete for, and even win, titles, so we expect Coach Oertling to have his guys ready to play.
Vandy only lost a few guys from a team that was literally a missed clearance in the final minute away from winning the title last year, and the core of that team remains.
I would like to think that we have one of the most experienced teams in the state this season, with seven seniors that have been four-year starters at their positions (most teams have plenty of seniors, but few teams have that many four-year starters) and some talented younger guys to fill in the gaps. When our full starting XI is healthy and rolling, we can be very good, as evidenced by how we played on Monday night. I will not be so arrogant as to say that "we should win our group". We know that Vandy and St. Louis will give us two of the toughest games we will play all season. We will come ready to play and let our performance on the field, good or poor, do the talking. Looking forward to it.

While I do agree that every group is brutal, as being discussed... Group C definitely has a certain group of death quality to it.and this year, that means power ratings boosts! After all, it's all about the power points now! . St. michaels will more than hold their own now that they have their football team back in soccer! Can't wait to watch these games! Hoping University makes football final so I can just watch Friday night and not have to coach! Will be very enjoyable and get to be less hectic than any other Copa as Friday is always the worst day to be tournament head and also coaching a team. I have a feeling this will be most wide open Copa ever... And all 16 teams may have a shot at winning Premier Division! I wouldn't take any team lightly! Warrior16 definitely knows his stuff on his first post about his group! Blake Dalferes is perhaps the top forward in the state, at least top 3. He plays doe Pope John Paul and I'm so glad he will get a chance to show his quality and his teams quality in front of the coaches of Division II and III and some college scouts also! Lots of great talent who have a chance to get seen by come college guys Copa weekend! Just pray for weather!

You cannot judge a team by the first week. Or preseason. I remember couple years ago Menard was picked to finish last and we ended up winning the group. Lost in the second round to st Martin in pks. We beat st martins in Copa. The tournament is well organized and incredible but any thing can happen in a 50 minute game. Especially after players get tired. The weather is always A factor. There are NO easy groups. None. That's why some teams don't play in the premier division. We will play anyone. Especially the top teams. Give you am indication of where you are at and what you need to work on. Can't wait for Copa and the first game versus Northlake. If possible while I am still here we will always play in the premier division if invited. This is the time to figure out your team for the play offs

Copa has 16 teams in premier division who wanted to play there and 16 teams in gold division who want to be there for whatever reason. Neville is always in football finals much less Semi-Finals, so they are NEVeR full strength and play where he feel,is appropriate based on how much he is missing! It works as he develops good depth against good playoff teams (remember, second division of Copa is nearly 100% playoff teams also) and it pays off for Coach Rogers every January and Februrary! So please, don't speak about things yiu don't have knowledge of. i hope all teams have received all of their info and please get me those roster sheets before Monday. I need them on that formatted excel document to be in the official program for teams, coaches, refs, media, tournament director and college scouts and coaches. cant wait! Pray for great weather!

The "pool of death" could just as aptly describe Group A: Beau Chene, University, E.D.White and Haynes. Those four teams are a combined 18-0-2 thus far this season. None have lost a game.
