1. When a player goes from an offside position to onside, is some amount of time suppose to pass before the player is onside?
In the Man U game a player was in an offside position. When the ball was played the defender made a poor clearance directly to opposing team who one touched it to the player who was originally off but now on. This entire sequence took a couple seconds. Should the player originally in an offside position be penalized? In my mind he clearly gained an advantage by being off.

Position at time of pass to the player...if they were offside, moved back on, then the ball passed to them, they are not in an offside position. Where they were at the time of the pass is when you judge

Honestly that is when he is offside- when ref says so. The rule is when it is usually called.
