That have shown great support and recognition for this season. You can ask Paul about my disdain for their contributions over the last few years. But they have really stepped up their game in showcasing this sport.
Thanks to all the news outlets that put prep soccer on the map. We really appreciate it!

I echo this. The coverage has been very good. I'd especilly like to thank our little local newspaper, The News Examiner for running a weekly article and a photo or two that I send in every week. I've always thought this goes a long way with the younger kids and their parents who are upcomminig when they are making that decisions about which sport or sports to dedicate themselves to. Especially a couple of nice action shots with players way up in the air and successful games to report of course. Oh, yeah - and a big slightly sarcastic thanks to the paper from our neighboring parish - The L'Observatuer - I've always gone out of my way not to draw undue attention to my own son in my writings and the pictures I choose. And when we play St. Charles, they go and send an actual reporter over and put his (my son's) name in the headline, his photo and even quotes in their article. Made me look like a grinch in our house, that's for sure.

I will add my 2 cents & say that the Times-Pic has done an absolutely incredible job with coverage this year. They regularly had reporters covering our games during the year. And when they couldn't cover our game, they would still use the stats write-up I would send in to create a shorter article (but coverage none-the-less). During the playoff run, they didn't travel with us to Baton Rouge nor Lake Charles, but they had assigned reporters and made arrangements with us to call in post-game. At the post-game dinner, they took stats and interviewed the head coach as well as 2-3 players. Then they wrote a quality report on the game, which was online before we were even back in New Orleans. On top of that, the 2-minute video clips that they did for each of the State Championship games were high quality and very well done. They captured 12 of the 13 goals as well as some other highlights and interviews with coaches & players. The one for our game has made the rounds on Facebook and at school. Division III video Division II video Division I video
If there's a vote for All-State News Organization, they would get mine.

And this is by far my favorite photo as a fan (not as a dad nor a soccer-head). It was taken by Peter Forest & published on NOLA.com as well as at least the Times-Pic Street edition. We had such wonderful fan support this year. It grew each game as the season (and then the playoffs) wore on. This picture was after the Finals and it captures the love of the players for their fans and the fans for their team. It shows the diversity of our school. It displays the emotion of the season in general and of that evening in particular. The caption was "It Feels like the First Time" and yes, it did.

While I'm very happy for the success and progress of the coverage in the south, I can't share the same optimism for NW La. If anything, media coverage has become nearly nonexistent. Very little coverage at all by the Shreveport Times until the playoffs.

The coverage of soccer by the Monroe News Star is pathetic. In the past, I remember being at a local boys game (St. Freds v. Neville) that was a thriller. The next day, not a word of it in the paper. However, the front page did have an article about a practice by one of the local girls basketball teams. Yes, about their practice.

The best way to get coverage about high school soccer. Both boys and girls is that the coach hasto be relentless with the local media

A lot of the coverage of my daughter's team over the past two years were short articles that I prepared and sent to the paper. And, a few times they have shown up to a game. However, by comparison to other sports, the coverage of local soccer is almost nil.

These reports make me even more appreciative of the Times-Picayune. Sometimes they did do the brief write-ups based on a scoreline I submitted. But we had plenty of coverage at games (even as a D-III school) and sometimes when they couldn't get there, they would ask for my write-up & then have phone interviews with the Coach and 1-2 players.
Double thumbs up from me to them!

Suggestion for you Monroe schools... Contact the Journalism dept at ULM. See if you can get a journalism or pr student who is looking for a little experience. Give them free admission to games and free concessions. They can use the clippings as portfolio pieces when they get out of school. You would probably need a local person because of school being out during your season. You might also have to give them a lesson in soccer if they haven't played.
You may be able to get together with other sports that don't receive coverage and have it count as internship. Just a suggestion.

H s coaches make sure you send your schedule ahead of time to all of your local media. Also call in stats and results after every game
