I was told in the beginning of the high school season that referees in Louisiana in conjunction with LSA and LHSSA were going to come down hard on all the "side winder" "spinning" throw ins that have become pervasive in Louisiana soccer. True or false? If true, some refs did not get the message and are not following through. If false, then the ref association should most definitely consider tackling this issue head on. Soccer is not baseball, softball or American football. Let's not destroy the beauty of the game by allowing such throw ins.

Ugly but legal will never get you in trouble.

No requirement that the ball not spin...as long as it is from behind and over the head it is legal...no matter how it looks. Now, I've seen many players that wind up to throw that the ball is not brought back over but beside the head, bit the windup isn't the issue if the pitch is correct.

And I'm aware of no concerted effort by either LSA or LHSAA to provide extra enforcement on throw ins. And if one were to come from LSA, I would definitely be aware.

Thanks happyjack. My source was a very reliable and "in the know" ref. I am well aware of the rule that as long as the ball comes from behind the head and spinning that is legal. I am talking about the ball coming from the side of the head - clearly illegal - and used by many players in Louisiana.
