The first game between these two seems like a long time ago. SSA won 2-1 in Lafayette (Moore Park). If I remember right, LHS scored near the end of the game. It wasn't really that tight. However, SSA started the season very strong while LHS took a while to find their stride. SSA had some struggles in the second half while LHS seems to have had some strong outings. I suspect it will be a close game. 2-1 again, but SSA this year.

Cayla Hebert will show up and execute!! I think Laffy has too much speed and firepower to be handled. Prediction: Lafayette 2-0! Really hope I can make it to this one.

Rematch of last year..... SSA is 0-3 in final game last 3 years. Will this be their breakout year or will they make it 4 in a row?

Rematch of last year..... SSA is 0-3 in final game last 3 years. Will this be their breakout year or will they make it 4 in a row? I prefer 2-3 over the last 5 years. I look at the this way. Is Lafayette better than they were last year? I don't know about LHS but I do think this is SSA's best team since the 2009 season. The game will be a matchup of the best Striker/Keeper combo vs. the more balanced SSA attack. Great rematch for two best teams in Div I.

Last year, we all watched LHS defend the goal while SSA played beautiful team ball. SSA did not win, but boy it was fun watching them play. LHS goalie, Larae, kept LHS in the game while the offense clearly struggled to score goals. Cayla Hebert has always been a quiet game changer, capitalizing on her ability to act quickly, shoot quickly, accurately and silently. Last year she had a beautiful goal out of a quick "fumbled" ball. It kept LHS in the game until the game winning goal near the end sealed the game for LHS. I have watched Cayla for the past four years mature as a team player, having the ability to pass or shoot the ball quickly. She does not demand a lot of attention and works hard every game. LHS has always been a team with a ton of talent and depth, managing to scrap together a win in adverse situations. Riley LeBlanc and Cayla are hard to beat but Riley has been out for most of the season. Are there better teams in this state? Yes, but somehow LHS manages to win games. Katie and Tommy have been very, very lucky to consistently have an overabundance of year round premier players every year for the past 10 years. This team is no exception.

offsides, You seem to know something about LHS soccer. I wouldn't say an over abundance of premiere players, just more than the schools in our area. There are a lot of girls on this team that don't play at the highest level in their age groups for club. The constant in LHS soccer is the coaching staff and what they demand from their players. Dedication, hard work, teamwork and trust in each other and the coaches to put them in the best situation to win. It doesn't always work out, but 3 players out with ACL tears, 1 wrist surgery, 1 player out for at least 7 weeks this season with concussion symptoms, along with a couple other concussion symptoms along the way, to make it to the finals and have a chance to take home the trophy, I believe the coaches have made believers of their players. And that is all that matters in the end. You say there are better teams out there, we'll find out on Friday. SSA is the only team that can prove they are the better team.
We expect an exciting game between 2 excellent soccer programs playing hard to represent their schools and coaches.
Good luck Lions!

Sokerfan, I would say most of the coaches in this state would take the LHS bench and make a competitive team. I am not sure there is a team in this state with the depth LHS enjoys. Your injury list/wins proves the point. The Lafayette Parish Schools of Choice have been very good to LHS soccer. The ACL tears worry me. This points to the importance of proper warm ups.The NCAA did a great study on women soccer players and ACL injuries. That being said, yes the coaches have done a great job of blending players to form winning teams through the years. But let's also always remember that quote; "Players win games, coaches lose them". Good Luck!

A sincere and heartfelt thank you to the Lafayette High girls soccer team. They were in town last night in preparation for their game today, They took time to come and support their Lafayette Soccer Sisters (STM) play Ben Franklin. They were enthusiastic, loud, and funny. STM should hire them for their games next year. Very classy ladies! Good Luck tonight. Go LIONS!

You can follow it here for play by play.
WGSO normally broadcasts the games, but no one sponsored it this year.
You can watch it live for $15 if you click on the link at the top of the girls forum.
