Great play by the lady jags, they played like they have all year long, WITH CLASS !! You can tell JB coaches these young ladies the right way to play the game. It really bothers me to see how "nasty" some teams play the game, as was shown by the late yellow from the Newman player! GREAT GAME LADY JAGS !! KEEP ROLLIN WITH IT !!

Why not just celebrate your victory? Calling how another team plays nasty on a public board whether deserved or not isn't too "cool." Congrats on your victory. Like Newman coach blaming the WIND on the loss rather than they were beat by a BETTER team !! C'mon man !! I guess PJP team played in a vacuum all night Same conditions on BOTH TEAMS ! And Newman fans chanting obscenities to the refs call If anything the refs were Newman fans, playing 4:45 stoppage time in a game that had zero injuries ! PJP ROLLLLED LAST NIGHT !!

I didn't read the coaches comments as a slight to PJP. I think he stated the obvious that the wind was a factor in the game. The Newman fans did not like the offside call that was made, but they are fans and they usually have no clue. The vulgar comments should be unacceptable, especially by an institution like Newman. I do not know what kind of watch you have, but there was not 4:45 of stoppage time. However, the referee does stop the watch for goals, cautions, and injuries. Two of those things occurred (2 goals & 2 cautions) in the 2nd half. Congrats to PJP on their first State Championship!

The institution "Newman" , lol
I vividly remember the last time PJP played Newman at Their field and about the same time in the game there was another real "classy" play by their "star" player. She threw a forearm to the back of the head to PJP defender and recieved a straight red. The punishment .....she had to sit out an entire 30 seconds in the next game. Boy, that really showed her. So I guess the tradition for girls soccer is cheap shots ! As far as the stoppage time. The time was kept by the world clock in an iPhone with a Rolex for a backup.

It was a storybook fairy tale ending to a wonderful year. Last night was just icing on the cake. I felt as though we deserved the win even though we held on late by our fingernails to preserve the win. We carved out more chances and finished 2. Both teams had good moments in the match. Kylie is a force and scored a beautiful goal late to make it close. If we had to play another minute I think Newman would have equalized. Newman never quit and played with heart. Congrats to Newman and Coach Ellis in a great year. As a dad this is bitter sweet as my daughter Jess heads off to college this year. Thank God for my sixth grader Ashley!! Looking forward to next year! JB

Congrats to both teams. Does anybody know if anyone from this game will be playing collegiately? I believe Kiley Ezzell plans to play at The University of the South. Are there others?

Those poor sports memories are forgiven. However until you mentioned it, the cheap shot last night to the PJP defender's leg tendon - without the ball - was almost identical to the incident you mentioned from 2 years ago - about 2 min left in the game in both cases. Hummm. Now to defend that Newman forward, you did not give her the due credit as she did sit out longer than you quoted. It was not 30 seconds but instead 2 minutes & 30 seconds.

Perhaps some could see alack in class by PJP whose home games have an annoying live play by play call over the PA system during play with someone SHOUTING goal over the PA on every score. I had never heard live play by play over the PA at any team sports event.
And to say PJP does not occasionally go a bit overboard with physical play would be a prevarication
As for the Newman coach referencing the wind, how could that be an excuse as both teams play with the wind? I took him as meaning they did not deal with it as well as PJP. “It was tough at the end,” Jaguars keeper Alexis Molero said. “The wind affected my punts a little bit, so I had to adjust to that too." I guess the PJP player noting the wind in the article means nothing?
PJP won the game because they were the better team. They have a great coach who is a pretty nice guy in general and a group of talented players who play with heart.
But please do not act like your players and fans are any more "saintly" than any other team. Newman is not perfect but neither is PJP....

By NFHS rules, you also stop the clock for substitutions....4 minutes can add up with a handful of subs.....

By NFHS rules, you also stop the clock for substitutions....4 minutes can add up with a handful of subs..... No, NFHS rules do not stop the clock for subs. However, if the CR believes that a team is deliberatly stalling by making excessive substitutions, he/she CAN stop the clock during the substitution at his/her discretion. Another thing. I wish I could understand why someone feels in necessary to be nasty and call other teams, fans, refs (basically accusing them of cheating), names after a game... that they WON. Can anyone explain what they get from that? Mystery to me... oh well... typical of some Louisiana HS fans I guess.

Boomer, I'm with you on that one. Keep cool is not satisfied with the championship. He or she wants to spend the day after the big win attacking others. Last night was the first time I saw either of the teams play this year so I don't know all the back stories about dirty players and which ones are classy and which are not. I saw two evenly marched teams with one, PJP, having a dominant goal scorer. The Newman attacker made a terrible decision late in the game. Does that define her? I have no idea. The later part of this thread does show how hard it is to have an objective conversation with fan (atics).

Keep Cool is in a reform mode. I thought he was cured but last nights late unnecessary foul & Newman student body chants with vulgarity resurface those old memories. In time, he will heal.

News flash to all, PJP WON! STATE CHAMPS! It is really crazy reading all the comments; the wind, the out of control parents (all teams have them), the rough play (it happens, this is a contact sport). 90% of the parents that yell have no clue how the game is played. I have seen PJP play twice. Both times they won. Both times they were the better team. They added talent their team this year. Add talent around a a good player and they become a much better player. Agian, the score states PJP won! All the other comments are a waste of time. Congrats PJP on a great season. And no, I am not a PJP parent or fan. Just a fan of the game.
