Charging ahead: Justin Portillo at Charleston

CHARLESTON - Former Coastal Carolina University men's soccer standout Justin Portillo has signed his first professional contract to play with the Charleston Battery of the USL Pro league.



Portillo joins Pedro Ribeiro, who recently signed with the Philadelphia Union of the MLS, as Chanticleers to ink professional deals this spring.

No news for Justin. Seems he made a short appearance in the Battery's game against Orlando back in April.

Incredible player; incredible person.  Had the honor of caoching him for a few years at the PDL level.  Deserves everything he is getting.  A true indication of the kind of talent in Louisiana.

Had a chance to speak with Josey, Justin's older brother, over the weekend and he said Justin has had a great preseason and is slowly but surely working his way in to the first team. Excited to see how his season turns out.
