Here is a link to the Times-Pic Article (but is also included below) Postseason splits for all sports among items to be discussed at Wednesday's LHSAA executive committee meeting
The LHSAA Executive Committee will meet Wednesday with a presentation from the School Relations Committee again among the headline agenda items. The Executive Committee will also look at a series of appeals and potential clarifications to rules changes voted on at January's annual convention, while also beginning to discuss what next January's convention might hold — in particular, the potential for a select/nonselect postseason split in all sports. "The whole things is just to have something prepared, and thoughtfully prepared, in case that happens at the January meeting," said School Relations Committee Chairman Mike Boyer, principal of Teurlings Catholic. "That's what we'd been asked to work on now, so it'll be interesting." The association endured criticism from some of its members throughout last year after the January 2013 meeting left unanswered questions regarding the newly adopted football postseason split. Principals from across the state voted this January to keep the new football playoff format intact, with Many Principal Norman Booker also expressing his interest in expanding the separate format to other sports, an idea for which several other coaches and principals voiced either concern or support. Officials on both sides of the issue have said they expect such a proposal to at least come to a vote next January. And how to handle the potential adoption of such a change has been the primary topic of discussion for the School Relations Committee as a result. "What we're bringing, I guess, is a new structure of governance for the LHSAA," Boyer said. "That's what we were asked to come do … This is all in preparation as a contingency for if there is indeed a split in all sports, that here is basically a plan we can go to. I would call it almost "a bracket plan," in which one bracket is the public schools and one bracket is the private schools with the individuals who either chose to or not to play each other. And what that does is it answers the scenario of a lack of voice." Select school coaches and principals criticized the circumstances voted upon in 2013 when principals statewide voted for the split postseason format and its related specifications, meaning nonselect school principals had voted for the playoff format under which select schools would compete.

They've posted a scan of the agenda. Of soccer-related interest is likely...
10:30 - 11:00 - Winter Sports Update (including soccer)
11:00 - 12:00 - Interpretation & Discussion of By-laws
1:00 - 1:20 - Episcopal BR ruling on Clement Mubungirwa - Age Rule
Other sections may also contain relevant info, but those are the ones that clearly seem to have soccer implications.

Looks like they're up to the appeals, but went to a closed door session for those. Nothing of major interest to share (at least of what's been reported).

@jeritroser (nola.com) Clement Mubungirwa's appeal denied, 11-8. That's tough. Man, that's tough. Heart goes out to Clement, his family & the Episcopal family.
@jeritroser (nola.com) Danny Cameron's appeal also denied. These appeals don't often get approved, but it's never not tough. (only played football)
@jeritroser (nola.com) both will be too old to compete next year

Last resort is hardship committee. I'd expect both to go before hardship before next season. Usually appeals always go to the letter of the law regardless of the situation. It's during hardship that extreme circumstances can be brought up and exceptions made if voted upon.

Still dont think these guys are gonna get a chance to play. LHSAA has been very very strict and consistent when applying these rules for age.

Find someone to appear on their behalf dressed in full military regalia at hardship hearing. That is the common factor between the two that I know that got approved. Just sayin.....

How could a player get a "hardship" allocation based on age? Seems pretty cut and dry.
Transfer hardships I can understand.

Age rule shouldn't be an issue. If the student is in their 4th year in high school then it shouldn't matter. 5 years I can understand. JMO

Very rare, but I do recall a player over the age limit being approved years ago. In that case the student had been involved in a traumatic event and was out of school for a year.

I know there are other rules about holding kids back and only having eight semesters of eligibility, but I'd imagine the age rule plays a part in that.
Not exactly sports related, but in high school I knew some ROTC kids who would complain about going to physical fitness competitions where they'd be up against muscular 20-somethings.

been dealing with this eligibility / hardship ruling,98.7% on the losing end for 20 years now.... recent case that i heard adjudicated but know the parties involved was a kid who transferred and claimed "bullying' although he/ she was more the perpetrator than the victim.... and got a 5- 0 affirmative ruling to play this year

Just curious: Did anything ever get clarified whether D-II will be 24 or 32 teams in the playoffs next year?

They should definitely reconsider Mubungirwa's case. He moved here from Congo with his mom and six siblings in the seventh grade with little to no education. He has worked hard to catch himself up to date with his education, and in the process has been held back twice, both times in middle school. He turns 19 this summer which is 50 days before the cutoff date so they denied his appeal with a vote of 8-11. I watched his story on the local WBRZ news a couple nights ago and several local high schools are working hard to try to get the LHSAA to reconsider. If this isn't hardship than I don't know what is! He plays both soccer and football for Episcopal.
