Let us hear your thoughts on this year's all-state teams.

MVP of the D1 championship not making the first team seems off. player was deserving. Also notable that Hebert from SPS made first team (deservedly so) but was on second team in his district.

I find Oscar Vega's omission from the D1 team surprising. I certainly thought he would at least get a second team spot.

He's one of the premier defenders in the division for sure The same reason that Bolton did not have a first team defender though it played all year with field player in goal and had almost best GAA in state while playing as many top teams as pretty much possible (and only losing to the state champion). Our "team" was just so much better than our "players"......

Sometimes it comes down to 'exposure', team ranking, geography, class/grade etc. Or a combination of the four.

First off, congratulations to all players that made the teams. I'm not nearly as familiar with the players this year as I have been in years past, but it seems like a solid selection was made.
Many players are going to be left off. Whether it be politics or no voting coaches in your area, it always happens.
My main question is this. Why are we having 1st team All-District, All-City, and All-State with more than 11 players? It doesn't make any sense to me. The best 11 players in the city make 1st team, next 11 make 2nd team, and so on for honorable mention. I think that the top tier players who make 1st team are clouded by the other 25 guys who make the 1st team. An All-Star team should be team with the correct number of players.

No comments except to say that I know at least one young man who is very grateful. So on his behalf - Thanks.

Congrats to all on the team. Question...how can players be selected All Metro First team and not make it while Second team All Metro players make the list? Just seems strange how the selections take place...politics I guess.

I think that the top tier players who make 1st team are clouded by the other 25 guys who make the 1st team. An All-Star team should be team with the correct number of players. The LSWA sets guidelines for All selection teams and posted it through LHSAA a few years ago. All sports have "MORE" than a normal starting lineup. Football has more than 11, basketball more than 5, baseball more than 9, etc... Soccer is recommended a team of 14 that Includes the MVPs (no kore than 2). Most districts are doing well with the 14... The problem is the MVP part. I saw a district with 5 and another with 6 MVPs. What?! Seriously! In our district, the last 3 years, our top defender has suffered because we have a co overall MVP (same 2 players the last 3 years) so we are limited there and can't name a defensive MVP. Our local sports writer sticks to the recommended guidelines and will not print more than 2 MVPs for an all district or all parish team. the 14 limit is usually done as a 4-4-2 plus 3 type things (with a keeper). Our district does a minimum if 4 defenders must be chosen and then fill the rest of the 14 slots with a keeper and anyone else deserving. For all state, we stop at the vote count that gets to 14 players... And must include all ties of that vote count because its a ballot system and not a meeting like All district is. The only way we don't go to the 14 player count is if there is natural break (huge gap) between the next set of vote totals. (ex- 12 votes and the next highest vote total is 5 after that...)

Garda has exposure from club, and Newman played many top teams in the Division. To the argument that sometimes teams play better than their players, this is true in some cases, but Garda absolutely made Newman's defense. Of course I would never point out a single person who should be taken off the list, and I don't even know that there is. All I'm saying is, I was very very surprised he was not voted All-State. He's my pre-season New Orleans All-Metro Defensive Player of the Year for next year

Congratulations to Miguel Jimenez of Haynes, 2nd team all-state defender, D-III, a very quiet and humble player. The coaches and players who played against him recognized his skills.
HOWEVER... he was a junior this year, not a senior. He will be back at Haynes next year baring club injury etc.

someone please explain to me how does Cole Garda (defender,Newman)does not make 1st or 2nd team all-state in division III??? Same for Justin Nhan (Caddo Magnet D1) ...District 1 OFFENSIVE MVP, ALL-CITY, ODP Region III Team??? There is a flaw in this process. Not too worry about it though... not unless it's worth an extra 8K of scholarship moolah!

I want to say a special congratulations to Joshua Hughes of Westminster Christian and Devin Pathoumthong of Northlake Christian. To be selected (2nd Team) as freshman is a huge accomplishment. My wife checked the archives and could not find a freshman on the past 4 All State teams. Both Josh and Devin had outstanding seasons for their respective HS teams, both are huge contributors to their club teams, and both are on the ODP 99 team. Kudos also to the voters for their willingness to recognize these deserving young men.

I can say that Nathan Gautreaux is very grateful for his inclusion on the Division Two 2nd Team as the Goalkeeper (as the first Leesville player on all-state in a loooooooooooong time).

Not taking anything away from these two as I have heard they are both great players but I believe Weston Acosta was all state as a freshman 4 years ago.
