I want to share some news with you that has come about pretty quickly even though it’s been in discussion for almost a year. Around June 4, we prayerfully came to the decision (with the support of our Board) that the season for the Malinich family to be located in New Orleans is coming to an end.
For those of you that don't know, we are missionaries working primarily in the U.S. In September 2006, we arrived for a 1-year assignment. That assignment got renewed annually for a nearly 8-year run. We have built many great relationships in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana and plan to see those continue, despite the geography change. We are working through transition plans over the next few weeks with various groups (Pastors’ Coalitions, Soccer teams, school connects, Prayer groups, Bible Studies, et al).
We believe that our next season will be spent partnering with churches in Pennsylvania and Maryland. We are currently planning a move "there" in the June 30 to July 15 window. We don't know our exact final destination, but we have many prayers being lifted and connectors being reached. We would like to find something strategically located and inexpensively priced. Andrew's club team will compete in Regionals and then there's the High School All-Star game on June 28. For those of you wondering, Raleigh (and NC State) will still be about 6-8 hours away. And HS soccer is a fall sport there so Josiah is hoping we figure out our school district soon since tryouts will likely be in August.
We will also try to maintain any status updates and changes at www.SetFreeMinistry.org so you can go there if you're wondering about the week-to-week news. You can also read our latest update there (What is That in Your Hand?) or support the ministry financially to help with our transition. Also, if you want to receive our updates regularly (about 5-6 times/year), let me know & I’ll add you to our e-mail list.
I have totally appreciated THIS forum of communicating about soccer in Louisiana. When Andrew started to play on Varsity I couldn't find any info on soccer anywhere and was a little frustrated. I think by the end of 8th grade or beginning of 9th grade, I found this site & it has been tremendous. I've met so many "good folk" from around the state and have learned a tremendous amount from the experts out there. I don't know if Chad will let me keep my Moderator status or not, but I will do my best to support the transition. It has truly been a blessing to have been here & we expect God to do great things here and in the Northeast during the coming days.
