Day 1...
Man, was it HOT. Fortunately the teams will only play one game per day over the next three. You can easily tell by the 65-70 minute players were beginning to drag and tire. Water breaks were 2 minutes long and welcomed throughout the day.
On the referee side, you have the best and brightest of Region 3 at your service. There are approximately 200 total. Each game has an assessor for developmental guidance and the region's mentorship group is also present. Most crews are intermingled...for example, my first game was with GA and SC referees, my second with TN and FL referees. There was a long break between games, so your referees are being well-rested...we are being taken care of very well by BRSC, LSA, and Region 3...the hospitality is amazing. All of us are very thankful and proud to be part of such a great event. Perhaps a quick meeting tonight and we hope to see some of you on the field tomorrow.
Overall, it's been some pretty good soccer and if you aint here, you're missing out.
PS-They are charging for parking, something like $15/day...yeah...

Day 2...
Another scorcher on the field. There are some days when you can say you're lucky to get a later set of games, today wasn't one of those days. HOT for both of my games.
With a lot of the brackets shaping up, some teams are in must-win situations and others by now should know where they stand. I haven't heard of any truly violent issues and from my point of view it seems like people are very well-behaved all around. Piece of advice: if opposing parents are on your side and causing an argument, go to the tent and find the field marshal (yellow shirt) and have them deal with it. I'd prefer to concentrate on the game.
Again tomorrow the word of the day is hydrate, so drink plenty of water and find some shade. We haven't had many referees go down this year due to heat exhaustion and that can be attributed to the many emails that started two weeks ago. Even with the heat and long games, we haven't had any thunderstorms.
I'm having a great time meeting new people and enjoying the competition.

Crossroads Pride U19 lost 0-4 today, but had done enough earlier to advance to a semi-final match against Concorde Fire Elite (GA) on Tuesday at 1:30.
Despite being unable to advance, BRSC/CSC Alliance U19 came out strong today with a 3-0 win over West Houston Youth Alliance to finish 3rd in their bracket.
LA Fire Navy U18 had already qualified after the first 2 games, including a win over the Premier League Central champion. Today they faced the Southern Premier League Champion, FC Dallas 96 Premier (my #1 overall seed) and played them to a 2-2 tie. They finish tied for 1st, but based on GD tiebreaker, they will carry the #2 spot from Group B into the quarterfinals, where they will face Premier League East Champion CESA 95 Premier. Game is Tuesday at 8:30.
LA Fire Red U17 only needed a tie to advance, but took care of business with a 2-0 win in their final bracket game to tie for 1st in bracket, but will carry #2 seed into quarterfinals based on head-to-head tiebreaker. They will face FC Dallas Youth 97 Premier on Tuesday at 11:00.
Mandeville Lakers U16 needed a win today to advance, but came up short 2-3. losing to the Premier League West Champions. The Lakers finished 3rd in bracket.

A personal note to the LA Fire 96 Navy team:
Thanks to this group of fine men for providing so many great memories over the last several years. It's a shame that it had to end today with a 2-1 loss, but nice job in putting yourself in a spot as 1 of the top 8 teams in the Southern U.S. You have been a joy to watch and cheer for in so many, many games. I will treasure the memories and I look forward to keeping track of many of you as you go on to play at the next level.
Now back to reporter mode:
Unfortunately both LA Fire teams (U17 & U18) fell to their opponents today by similar scores of 1-2.
The U19 Crossroads Pride game has been delayed due to lightning and the new kickoff time is 4:30.
On the girls side, both our U18 girls teams came up short, but our U17 LA Fire Navy team won their game against a previously undefeated opponent. They will play in a semi-final tomorrow at 10:00.

U19 Pride (or u17-19 Pride) came up just a bit short in its semifinal against Concorde Elite (GA), losing 0-2 (both goals coming in the final 10 minutes of the 2nd half).
Great accomplishment for a great group of young men; fun to watch our guys hang with some of the best in the southeast.
Concorde faces Team Boca (4-3 pk winners over Dallas Texans) in the final.
