I am noticing a trend that disturbs me. Disclaimer: I am a keepers mom.
We had three games this weekend. One game ball kicked out of my daughter's hands- no call. Luckily no goal either. My daughter was on ground with two outstretched hands on ball.
Another game... She and player collide while going for ball. Both injured but other player more so. Call against my daughter and almost card. Rationale for no card is she was going for ball- think that should mean no call.
Same game- immediately after girl runs into her after she has caught ball. No call by Ref because he said she looked like she was trying to stop. Despite girl saying Ha after Ref said it- no call.
I talked to AR after and he said the shift had gone away from protecting keepers because some were taking advantage.
He admitted that shift had gone too far. It seems like open season on keepers. Again- please see disclaimer but legitimate concern.

I notice in the last year the high school refs have stopped the keeper from lifting one knee when going up for the ball. they were taught to do this in keeper training camp, but i've seen different refs in several games stop & warn them not to do it again. & yes im a keepers dad too., so maybe it's just us?

I don't know but Ref seemed to confirm my observations. He even said the other Ref probably called it because other girl was on ground crying.
Believe me- I hate for anyone to get hurt but why is it OK for a striker to run into keeper to make goal but not OK for keeper to run into her trying to save goal and yes- my daughter punched ball out.

Let me assure each of you that for club ball, there has been no directive or memorandum out from USSF concerning the gk protecting themselves.
For HS, I think I remember for the 2012-2013 or 2013-2014 points of emphasis that referees should have a greater awareness of why the keeper was lifting their leg or knee. Now some officials may be misinterpreting this as the keeper cannot lift his knee to protect himself which, IMO, I disagree with...the keeper should be allowed some degree of protection from a charging forward...but the trend became keepers shifting this from a defensive measure to a free shot at an attacker. Emphasis needed to be placed on being more aware of this contact, being proactive when the situation allowed, and sending off keepers when the measure was deemed offensive or aggressive. I am not sure what information was filtered from the state, whether LHSAA or the state rules interpreter, as this upcoming season will be my first full season in Louisiana. So something might have been put out, whether statewide or locally, that I am not aware of.

I'm not talking about directives but in practice. It seems like keepers used to get the benefit of the doubt in a collision and how possession was defined.
It seems that has shifted to strikers getting the benefit unless obvious.
In the end, it's a judgment call I guess. I just hope no one gets seriously hurt because players are seeing what they can and can't get by with.

Well, we get to that practice by directives, memorandum, or points of emphasis. There have been no changes in Law itself (worldwide). What USSF (here) or NFHS (HS ball) puts out are clarifications that can be due to trends, anticipated actions, or changes in Law/Rules. Here is an article that I think addresses the point you are trying to make. It is from 2005 but nothing has changed since then WRT goalkeepers. www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/03/17/12/02/playing-the-ball-in-the-goalkeepers-possessionThe above is for USSF/FIFA but applicable to NFHS as well. Now back to your original post...looks like you got a couple things going on. The attackers are NOT getting any benefit over the keepers. And it sounds like you were given some erroneous information on a few occasions.

Not every Ref gets to practice by directives.... only the good ones interested in improving.
Again- I guess all a judgment call in the end as are most things with soccer. I know there are rules but things like handling and this are in the eye of the beholder or ref.
If a goalkeeper is on ground with two outstretched hands on stopped ball- possession or no?

Some view refereeing as a weekend hobby and have no desire to really get into the memorandum and directives, and that's fine..they are servicing the game as they see fit. Not everyone wants to eat/sleep/breathe these publications, and those of us that do...yes, I have my almost-daily buffet of the referee library...their dedication, desire and drive tends to show in the job they do. What you describe is clear possession, and the link in my previous post makes that very clear. Possession is subject to interpretation, but there are some very specific examples in that link. Now my personal belief is that a lot of attackers are unfairly punished for some trivial contact with the GK...then again, I was an attacker

We have never had an attacker punished for contact with my kid.
This occasion I think player that kicked it out of her hands should have been called for a foul. No card but a foul.
Incident where other player was hurt, I think no foul on either.
She routinely gets bruised and stepped on because she is aggressive and isn't afraid. It makes me cringe but I'm ok with it.
In the end, it's over and done. Just wanted to express my opinion. At least the Ref got the right number of minutes in each half unlike last time he reffed our game.
