This was called a foul in the box which of course led to a penalty kick.... A lotta heated debate as to whether or not this is a foul... I thought it was... However some believe it was not because the defender got the ball before the player fell... Just trying to get some different views

No foul. The ball was clearly played before contact was made. At least judging from the video.

I agree with hall97, no foul, in fact I would give a lot of credit to the defender for making a very good and well timed tackle.

Once again, it looks the ref got it wrong. People mistakenly think that just because there's 'contact' that there is a foul.
Not so...
if the ball is clearly 'played' before the contact is made, it is a clean tackle.
I've seen refs get this wrong time and time again...via video evidence.

Dunno. there is a player (#7?) comes in from behind and clearly does not play the ball. She is shielded, but if you look at about the 57 second mark, you can see she comes in from behind, and, as the other defender plays the ball, she is playing the striker. Penalty may be the right call.

There is a lot going on in that clip, but I think i agree with Smee. The foul is likely on #7 before #14 makes contact with the ball.

I had a center explain that as our player and the opposing player ran out of bounds and the opposing player literally punched our player that there was nothing he could do because it occurred outside the field of play.

MyArsenal, no foul was committed because it happened outwith the field of play. for it to be foul, and be restarted with a free kick, it has to be: during active play, between players of different teams, and on the field of play. It can, however be misconduct. Cards can still be issued: from the description above, red for violent conduct.

smee, I know it was not a foul but he actually claimed he had no authority to issue any corrective action. He seemed unhappy when I asked if it would not be a great strategy under his interpretation to beat the crap out of the other team whenever they stepped out of bounds.

I bet he was unhappy but it is true. By that reasoning he would also have no control over parents, coaches, and benches because they are not on field.
Think it should have been straight red with no free kick.

I say foul on #7 coming in across the players legs and getting no ball. #14 plays it cleanly and it could be argued the challenge from #7 was unnecessary and she should have pulled up. I think the PK is warranted.

Also agree with smee and laffy on the straight red for violent conduct off the field of play.
