The 12th ranked team in Division III takes on the 12th ranked team in Division I tonight at Northshore Highschool for 6:00 p.m. Any thoughts or predictions?

Obviously there is a substantial difference between d1 and d3 teams with similar rankings.
Sure, there is crossover in terms of player and team quality.
But, depth is a key factor when comparing the top d1 vs d3 teams.

Yeah. I don't take any results in D-II and D-III too seriously until after the first weekend of December (same weekend as Copa Acadiana) for that reason. By then all fall sports are over, and the full team is back.
We are a perfect example of that this year. We have 33 kids on the team this year, but about half of them play football or other fall sports, and we won't be at full strength until all the fall sports end. Even after we get all those guys back, it will take a while for them to get used to the rhythm of soccer again, so I don't expect us to start playing our best soccer until late December. We only had 15 kids available for our game against Denham on Tuesday, and 17 kids available last night, with most of them being inexperienced underclassmen. That's barely half the team.
Most D-II and D-III schools just don't have the luxury of being able to field large teams the whole year, like most D-I schools do, and so their results tend to be a bit deceiving earlier in the year. Even huge 4A schools like St. Thomas More generally have tons of athletes that play multiple sports, unlike huge 5A schools like Jesuit and St. Paul's that can field entire teams of boys who only play soccer, and who play it year-round.
I expect our rematch against Denham in January to be much more competitive than Tuesday's game, since we will have our full starting XI back, and they should be in good form after having a soccer ball under their feet for two whole months.

Cannot say that was the only reason for difference in match, but coach is spot on about D3 rosters, this past week is always the toughest for D3 programs. Football players are sometimes still out or just returning, state cross country and swim meets hit us hard. Agree it takes a few weeks to get everyone in rhythm and of course thanksgiving holiday break impacts us. With all that said, Coach Laz always has the panthers ready and they played very well and as usual he has a stong squad.
