Well, I still think both teams should be congratulated on another great game.
With that being said, that PK call at the end is a really rough way for Ben Franklin to be denied a victory in this game. (Watching from about 10:30 in soccerdad23's video.) Seems like the defender has a step on the forward, they are both running to beat each other to the ball, the BF player gets there slightly in front, they collide at almost the same time the BF keeper collects the ball, and the SSA player falls. I couldn't see any tug or extended push or really much of any initiated contact by the BF player. Those kinds of collisions happen and they're not cause to change the outcome of the game, especially with the BF keeper already winning the ball. I think very few referees would make that call. Anyway, that's just my take. I'm sure SSA supporters will watch the same footage and say their attacker was clearly fouled!
One last note, what an incredible series of dribbling by BF's #6 shortly after the PK to earn a foul near SSA's box, and how close was #4's bent free kick, hitting the post! That would have been some ending. It would be cool to see these teams play again later and settle the two ties!
SSA is in good position to make the final with a dominating 5-1 win over St Joseph's, which BF will somehow have to match. Either way, Dominican should be waiting, so should be a good final on Saturday!

With my less than perfect eyes, it looks as if the BF defender's right arm is out and could be pushing. Perhaps it looked worse from the AR's perspective. He actually looks like he made the call from behind as he was running into position. I could not say say it was a horrible call had it been made either way. I do wish they had a chance to go to overtime or PKs as one of the two teams will be left out of a tourney final they probably will only have slightly missed. What happens if BF happens to beat St Joseph's 5-1?
Whatever happens or will happen, looks like we have a lot of good soccer to look forward to this season.

Looks to me from the video that the SSA player has gone into the back of the Franklin player, however it did look like the BF player was very heavy in protecting the ball during live action.
Either way isn't impeding a player from getting the ball an indirect free kick???

Looks like a bad call. BF player has a right to the space as much as the SSA player. Looks like the BF player is slowing down and the SSA player initiates contact.

Never a penalty. As a ref, you have to avoid turning a result on that type of play. If you do make that call, it's obstruction and an indirect. Never a penalty.

Two very good teams, and although I would agree that the penalty call could/should have been waived off, I also believe that the Ben Franklin 2nd goal was basically a gift. The SSA keeper had a great game (from the highlights you posted), but she let the header slip right through her hands on that corner kick. I think a 1-1 score would have been justified. There are so many good players on those two teams, that just those 13 minutes of highlights can show the quality of skill and passing. I can easily see both of them making the finals again. And I am saying this as someone that does not represent either team.

As a ref, you have to avoid turning a result on that type of play. If referees have to worry that any call they make will change the outcome of a game, they'll never make calls. I'd argue it's the players that shouldn't commit fouls that make the referee make calls. and this is not a comment on the call in question, but the statement above.

Looked like the the BF player fouled when she did not have to. Just take the push in the back from the SSA player and the foul goes the other way. My understanding of the rule is that you can impede another player if within "playing distance" of the ball. BF was clearly within that distance but clearly extends the arm and shoves the SSA player. My opinion good call initially but then to award a PK is horrible. Definitely should have been an indirect kick.

Love to see these teams play again!! If BF hasn't lost a game in ages, then why are they still Division II? They can clearly hang with the Division I competition.

If BF decide to play up then the whole soccer program has to play up, meaning the boys team would also have to play up.

BF will come back to the field next year in a dramatic fashion.

But BF's boys' soccer team would have to play up if their girls' soccer team wanted to. Their other sports teams could stay.
