some thoughts:
Div I: Jesuit only lost 6 total votes after going 0-3 in Mississippi over the weekend? Really not separating #2 - #7, but Mandeville should be higher. Not sure why anyone has East Ascension, Rummel, or Alexandria in their top 15. You attach Denham Springs results to a perennial top 10 team, and they would be sitting around #3 right now. I bet Denham Springs would beat Jesuit today.
Div II: Nice to see the flexibility with East Jefferson. EJ's first ever #1 ranking. They should be proud. Of course, the result of an excellent tournament showing results wise. Seems right now that #1 - #12 are tightly packed. Really believe Morgan City should be significantly higher.
Div III: Will be interesting to see how St. Louis pans out. Pope John Paul seems to have gotten a boost from tying St Louis, otherwise, a poor showing at Copa. Not sure how Country Day keeps getting so many votes either. St. Thomas Aquinas not getting much respect.

I'm glad they kept these rankings even though in the long run seeding will go by power points. It's good to have something for early in the year until there are enough games played that the power points resemble something close to what they will be at the end of the year.

It's also a good way to see if the seeding system works well every year.

And in my opinion Mandeville has to be rank # 2. Just look at their record 8-0-1....this rankings are based on a week by week performance. Jesuit is 1-0-1 and 3 losses to out of state teams. Bro Martin is 2-0-0...I would say for respect of previous years is ok to rank those teams higher at preseason or first week rankings. But after week 2 other teams are having a better season and voters should consider them. But again this is my humble opinion.

It's good to have something for early in the year until there are enough games played that the power points resemble something close to what they will be at the end of the year. Don't count on computer seedings to reflect coach rankings very closely. Coaches take into account strength of opponent, while the computer does not. In fact the program devalues opponent strength in favor of wins against the village people, or whomever. You don't even get full value for an opponents wins if you lose to them.
If computer seeding were done today, Pope John Paul would be computer ranked out of the playoffs, as would St. Thomas Aquinas and probably Episcopal. Hopefully some corrections will get these teams into the playoffs at the end of the season... though I'm worried about PJP because of their schedule.

What about Ruston?

To be honest, I'm not overly worried about the computer seeding being way out of whack.
For one thing, enough teams make the playoffs (I think even D-II has a full playoff slate this year). If you make it, then you have to win to move on. You are going to run into really good teams anyway sooner or later. Seeding might affect the early rounds some (more on that later) but I don't think they'll effect eventual champions and probably not runners up that often.
Regarding the early rounds, for some of these games, I think seeding is somewhat of a self fulfilling prophecy. If you get a better seeding either by the computer or by the coaches you are more likely to do better than if you had a lower seeding in these rounds. So who's to say which is right?
Which brings me to - I think that in the long run it is a good idea to have an objective system rather than a subjective one. While I think we've been fairly fortunate in that, by and large, the coaches have done a commendable job and seemed to have voted mostly in furtherance of the greater good and have put aside how their vote would affect their own interest. But an understanding of human nature would lead me to believe that this is not always guaranteed to be the case.
Besides which, I just don't think that there are that many bad teams out there with a lot of wins for others to schedule and feast on to boost power points. And if there are and several teams schedule them and beat them, well, they won't have quite so many wins after all.
Just my thoughts.

Ruston is not a top level team deserving votes. They have won some games this year against mid-level opponents. The years ruston makes playoffs they don't make it out of the first round. They need to prove themselves much more against better talent

Methusalah I have to agree with resepct to the objective method of determining playoff seeds. This year is a great example of how opinion rather than math can skew the process. Now, before I go any further, I mean no disrespect to ANY team--so all the haters that only are capable of reading one sentence and then jumping all over me without understanding context just shut up.
I think there is still a very significant lack of understanding of the power points system by coaches statewide and how it will affect tournament seeding. Right now a great example is Jesuit (no hating). Jesuit has been held in high esteem by pollsters throught time due to the history of the program and rightfully so--they earned it through the demonstration of their play. This season, though, we may be seeing a "down" Jesuit team who will struggle against many other big programs unlike anything we have seen from them in the past. So far they have played 5 games, going 1-3-1 and only scoring 2 goals. We will grant them the quality of opponents, but also look at the process of accumulation of power points and their remaining schedule. Out of state games carry NO weight at all in the power point process, so with the exception of "preparation" they dont really help your team to play them. I truly believe there are plenty of comparable talent teams here in LA that would be just, if not more, beneficial to play rather than those from outof state. Jesuit now has its district schedule, St Pauls, and a few quality friendlies with King, Newman, and Vandebilt (two of those schools being smaller than 5A). Is this enough to gain Jesuit the necessary power points it will need to gain a top 8 seed? At this juncture I dont think so, unless they can run the table (which would include 2 wins over Brother Martin, a win over St Pauls, and a win over King...dont see that happening this year). Jesuit will get little out of the remainder of its district schedule besides Brother Martin, with Holy Cross, Shaw, and Rummel being a combined 4-15-1 at this juncture. Thats 6 of Jesuits remaining 11 games (St Pauls tournament not included). Even getting the 5 points for besting these teams Jesuit will only gain a few win points--Jesuit most likely would be better to lose to a 20 win St Pauls in a friendly than beat Shaw twice. Keeping in mind that a win by itself only gives you .20 power points across a 20 game season, you can see where Jesuit will really have to work to stay a top 8. They now have to win to ensure a better seed. Think an 8 doesnt matter? I beleive St Pauls will get the #1 after they go undefeated, win their own tournament and with their tough non district schedule, so assuming the seeds held Jesuit at the eight gets the 9 in round two, and then the 1 in round three--provided they make it that far--and would have to do it on the road. No 32 then a 16. Big difference.
I think Jesuit has made it tougher on itself by not adapting to the new process, instead choosing to stay with what it does traditionally. Dont get me wrong, they are still ultra talented and if any team could rise up and make it work, its the Blue Jays. This year though, I think tradition is gonna get them in trouble when the playoff seeds come out.

What do you think about Bonnabel? I don't know much about them, but was just curious, because I see that they account for the one loss for the top-ranked Div II team. Looks like they also beat Ehret. But it could be that beating the top Div II team is not enough for a Div I to get votes.

1) East Jefferson (4) ---1) EJ-clear #1 1) Vandebilt (3) ----2) Vandy Beau Chene (2)------3) ST Moore 4) Ben Franklin --------4) Lakeshore 5) Lakeshore----5) St. Mike 6) St. Thomas More --------6) Beau Chene 7) St. Michael----------------7) Morgan City 8) E.D. White ----------------8)Bolton 9) Bolton -------------9) Ben Frank 10) Lutcher -----------10) EDW
East Jeff is clear #1 at this time. Pretty tough to rank 2-10 but Vandy is 2 at this point. Beau Chene has game at Morgan City tonight. BC is definitely top 5-6 team and MC is underrated at this point. Should be interesting game.

Not sure EJ are good enough for #1, but are definitely top 5 So far I would say yes. They did enough on week 2 to be #1 s to start week 3. I agree that rankings should be ultra responsive to results in early part of season. Like Raul said, seems reasonable that early season stuff is based on last season and prestige. Then once week 2 and 3 hit, start giving teams that perform their due. Later in the season, coaches can evaluate the "body of work" aspect and be a little more selective on responding to one result. EJ definitely deserve the #1 ranking IMO. Though Vandy has a claim, they lost earlier on the week to Lakeshore and that's the difference. It may not be that EJ is the "best" team in the state...but they had the best week. Period.
