At our school, fans sit on opposing side from players. Is this a rule?
If so, should refs make fans move if they are sitting behind a bench and causing disruption? Just curious.

There are no rules specifically addressing where fans sit. How close Tao the benches were they? There are technical areas for teams and team officials that fans should not be in
although your school could have its own rules...

We may. I know with club it's spectators on one side and teams on other. That's how we do it. Spectators from both sides are on home side and both teams are on visitors side.
I wasn't at game so I don't know if things were exaggerated. I believe they were sitting in bleachers behind our team's bench. I was wondering how the ref let it continue but maybe they weren't breaking any actual rules.

Now there are schools that choose to have that side be behind the benches such as Vandebilt and Lutcher are two that come to memory. Most have fans opposite side of benches. No spectators are allowed on the opposite side. I'm too lazy to find rule but it's been enforced many times before including a playoff game we were once in.

In most high school stadiums I've been to the fans sit in the "home" stands. I think this is mostly for the sake of convenience in collecting the gate, opening only one concession and opening rest rooms only on one side, not to mention things like score board operator and announcer if there is one are on that side. I guess then it's up to the home team or maybe the refs where they set up the teams. I'm thinking there are usually benches on both sides unless they take the visiting benches in after football.
Of course there is usually (always?) a lot of space between these stands and the field. FIrst their is usually a several foot drop due to the stands being built up. Then usually a fence, Then maybe some grassy area, then a track & field track, then another usually larger grassy area and then the benches.
Now open fields at facilities like Burbank, Moore, Lafreniere, the Lake Charles fields, etc. would be a lot more problematical to have spectators sit on the same side as the fans. The space between fields is usually limited and that would have the fans in really close proximity to the players. I know I've seen refs shoo off students from schools that have tried to go either behind the goals or near the benches at Burbank and I'm sure they would do the same at any of these parks.

NFHS 1-6 states spectators will be a minimum of 10'feet from the touch line, bench/team area, and goal line. And any spectator behind goal line must be in bleachers, can't stand.
I hope this clears up this issue - fans can sit anywhere

I'm a little confused...what's the difference between spectators and fans? Secondly...why is this even an issue? what other sport regulates whether or not fans sit behind the players bench or not? what's that all about??....I must be missing something...what is the problem with fans sitting on the players side of the field...short of the fans being close enough to effect the game ie; close enough to give the players massages or take their bags, whats the issue?

The fans and spectators was a joke. I think someone misspoke and they were being ribbed for it.
I just asked the question because I am used to club soccer and our school does it similarly.
I won't get into specifics about what else prompted my question because I was not there so it would be secondhand hear say.
Question has been answered that it is allowed. Again- no big issue, just asking a question.

As a coach, one of the best things was to have the fans and spectators on the other side of the field. I think this would be a great "rule" to enforce.

CHNI has a pretty boisterous student section that sits behind their bench in the bleachers. Typical teenagers, toe the line without crossing it. It adds to the environment as long as administrators are willing to regulate the crowd if necessary.

There really was a rule for this in high school.., one side only. And most schools did opposite of the benches. I can't find it anywhere, but I remember finding it the first time I played at Vandy and saw the crowd was behind the benches... Any old school coaches want to help remember where this rule was? Handbook or NFHS?
