Well in the past four years the contenders in D1 and D3 championships have been either from New Orleans or about an hour or less from N.O. So no point in moving it from there.

Girls side, too, and Ben Franklin was in both DII Finals in N.O. last year. Why would anyone make all of those fans travel? Plenty won't and revenue would go down. Therefore it won't happen. NewO

Joe Yenni, I believe, has the best turf of the three, with Tad Gormley having the worst. Pan American stadium is a bit too small for a state finals match. For the best bet, I think that Joe Yenni would be perfect.

Strawberry Stadium in Hammond. 7500 seats with plenty of parking. Plenty wide enough for a pitch and right at I12 I55 intersection for convenience. Easy gameday trip of under 45 minutes for NOLA and BR teams.

If you hold the game in Lafayette, the crowd size goes from 7,000 to 3,500. Sorry folks but 25 percent of the State population and probably a larger percentage of the State's soccer fans live in the New Orleans area. Yenni would be a lot better ... seating closer to field and the field itself is wider with less of a hump, better, thicker (thus slower), turf.
Actually, Tulane's Yulman Stadium appears to be almost ideal. I've taken a quick look at the drawings and pictures and it looks like it would be possible to configure the field to be 65, even 70 yds. wide. This width and the amenities would be far better than the other alternatives. Tad Gormly's field is only about 60-62 yards wide and the beaten down turf is too fast.
Cost to the LHSAA to rent Yulman would be another matter.

Well in the past four years the contenders in D1 and D3 championships have been either from New Orleans or about an hour or less from N.O. So no point in moving it from there. That's fantastic for the NO area! However, part of the "fun" of finals events is the travel ! I'm not one to award placement based on performance of the area and LHSAA shouldn't either! When the same few schools have to budget $4,000 for ONE GAME on an already non-existent budget, it's hard to do! Why shouldn't other areas of the state be asked to make that financial sacrifice? 4 of the final 8 teams in D1 last year were not from the NOLA area. It's not about the convenience for the local teams - it's about the best venue for the event! So the validity of that point is moot ! Not to mention dealing with the Mardi Grad events and festivals at that time of the year in NOLA! Lafayette makes perfect sense when logistics and not favoritism is considered. At the end of the day, this is all for the kids!

At the end of the day, this is all for the kids! If that's the case, then realize that many more kids would be inconvenienced and forced to miss classes if the games were moved from New Orleans. For both boys and girls soccer, most of the best teams are from the New Orleans area. You say that performance on the field shouldn't matter, but I think it should certainly be a factor. The volleyball playoffs are in Kenner every year. Should we put them in the northern part of the state when there are barely any volleyball teams up there? Financially it just doesn't make sense to put the soccer championships anywhere else. I'm sympathetic to the plight of players and fans who have to travel, but I think it's pretty clearly in the best interests of the majority to keep the championships in the New Orleans area. As for the original question, I think Pan Am is the best spot, but I realize that it could be a little too small for the DI title games, depending on which teams make it. I think Yenni would be great, but parking is a huge issue. Gormley's huge track makes it much less spectator friendly than the other two.

Wasn't there talk a couple of years ago about building a soccer specific venue somewhere (I think) on the west bank of New Orleans? Is that still in the works?

Couple of other issues with using Tulane's stadium: 1) There doesn't look to be any soccer markings on the turf (it is artificial turf, right?). 2) Tulane is the only school in their conference with no varsity soccer program, either men's or women's. How supportive are they of soccer? (They do have varsity women's bowling and sand volleyball . . .)

Tulanes stadium would be the perfect location. With regards to field markings, they could be painted on like they are done on other turf fields.
Chances of anyone trying to make this happen = zero

I agree Yenni is the best choice in New Orleans. Outside of NO, Strawberry Stadium wouldn't be a terrible idea if we could get it. Beautiful field, great parking and smack dab in the middle of NO, Covington, and BR areas to minimize travel. UL's field is nice too, but I don't see the championship leaving the Crescent City anytime soon, if ever, so I would love to see them give Yenni a shot.
Looking forward to playing East Jeff there at the end of January. Should be a playoff-intensity game between two of the strongest D-II teams.

Worry not lads!! The games will never be moved as the charge for stadium use is ZERO DOLLARS! Can't beat free and that has been the reason why its held there every year. (Confirmed source close to the source)

I would like to see the finals played on grass for a few years. I think teams that are lucky to have turf fields fields are at an advantage. The ball reacts different on turf, also a turf field is flat compared to the turtle back of a grass field. I've watched many kids stop running expecting a ball to go out of play only to roll right down the line. Besides Lafayette area has a good soccer following and at least 1 team in the finals

UL soccer holds 5,000? Doesn't seem that big to me. I would have guessed way wrong.

There's no way UL holds 5000 folks. If Joe Yenni is only 8500, UL is 2000 at the very most
