I was shocked to see that news. They had a proud history in American football and I'm pretty sure they've fielded soccer teams in the past.
Have they fielded a soccer team on either the boys or girls sides recently? Seems like I remember our teams playing them a couple of years ago.
I would assume that any of the athletes that might play soccer would gravitate to either St. Mikes or maybe Catholic BR. Or maybe one or another of the other BR area schools.

I know that they fielded a team year before last (2012-13). Westminster traveled to Redemptorist for a match early in that season.

Sad to see the school closing down. My brother went to Redemptorisf.
That area of Baton Rouge is just a dying area of town unfortunately and Redemtorist's enrollment had gradually declined to the point where it was no longer sustainable. I don't think their soccer program ever really took off and they never had a lot of club players to my knowledge, but it's never good to see a program die. Istrouma is nearby and they're suffering a similar fate with their enrollment. They were a 4A school three years ago. Now they're barely a 2A.
Southeast Baton Rouge is exploding. North Baton Rouge is fading away.

They had a soccer team last year, but not this season.

They had a team last year, not very competitive. Sad to see them go. It wasn't long ago that their games with Parkview in football were wars. Istrouma is totally closed now by the way.
