Recap from today's St.Amant VS EA Game 1/10/15
St.Amant 3
EA 2
The Gators started the game quickly by getting two quality looks at goal in the first 2 minutes but could find the net, in the fourth minute EA would score first off a corner kick that the Gators felled to clear and Evan Leblanc would poke it in for the lead. The Gators would get there first goal in the 7the minute on a Briggs Bourgeois free kick just on top of the 18, EA committed the hard foul and the Gators would capitalize on the mistake.
St.amant would get the lead in the 28 minute on a Seth Benoit goal, Benoit got the ball just inside the EA half with space to push forward Benoit continue pushing forward with no pressure and Benoit would pull up and shoot from around 30 yards that would beat the EA over his head. EA would counter at the 33 minute, Jonathan Vidrine would beat two Gator defenders on the right outside Vidrine would send the cross to a waiting Carter Marchand who would take the first touch volley for the 2-2 equalizer.
First half end in a 2-2 tie.
The first 20 minutes of the start of the second half saw each team making several runs at goal, both keepers (STA Breaden David, EA?) were up for the task as both made several key saves to hold the game at 2-2. At the 68 minute and with a scurry of shots on the STA goal the Gators would get the ball out of traffic and Beau Trabeau would play a ball forward to Steven Saucier. Saucier would allow the ball to roll through instead of taking a touch, this proved to be critical as it faked the defender setting up his run. Saucier's first touch shot inside the box appeared to saved by the EA keeper but the deflection hit the posted and go in, 3-2 Gators.
EA was not to go down without a fight and they would continue to pressure the Gator defense, with several counter attacks that caught the Gator defense but they could not get the game tying goal.
Final 3-2 St.Amant

BRMHS should be 2-1-3. They have 3 ties in district according to the LHSAA schedules/results. They tied Catholic twice and Dutchtown.

Thanks JB for the updated standings. I have a quick question. If we have 6 teams in the power ratings top 32 and not all the teams are at or above 500 in district. Will they be eligible for the playoffs.

Paul is correct. All district champions make the playoffs (which takes about ten "automatic qualifiers" for each division), and the remaining spots are essentially "at-large" bids determined by power rankings. The chances of any team with a power ranking lower than 32 winning its district are very low, regardless, but what Paul explained would happen if that were the case.
I wouldn't be surprised if all 7 teams from 5-I make the playoffs. We've played four of these teams, and every game was challenging. McKinley and Woodlawn have struggled in this brutal district for a while now, but I think both would be average teams in most other D-I districts and maybe even title contenders in a few of them. Every team has it's fair share of BRSC and Gonzales club players, and there isn't a single easy game for anyone in this district.
I think you will also see some teams with a very low number of wins make the playoffs that would probably not do so if the coaches were seeding, especially in D-II, which only has 39 teams this year. For example, Tara have only one win so far this year, but could find themselves in the playoffs simply from the benefit of having Lutcher and St. Michael (both of which should finish the regular season with around 17-20 wins) in their district. I don't think you'll see this as much in D-I and D-III, but don't be surprised if there are some headscratchers in D-II come seeding time when teams with one or two wins make it in over teams with four or five wins.

St.Amant -3
BRHS- 2
On Senior day for the Gators this one started out fast for the Gators as they would score in the 5th minute, Seth Benoit would play a perfect pass through the BR defense to Briggs Bourgeois who would finish just inside the 18. The Gators would then strike again in the 8th minute, with the ball deep in the Gators end Beau Trabeau would win the ball and dribble out of traffic up to mid-field and he would play the ball forward to Steven Saucier who was in full stride and would finish the shot. The Gators had a few more chances to get a 3 goal lead but couldn’t finish.
BRHS started to wake up after the 2-0 lead by the Gators and would get a much needed goal in the 17 minute from Jowad Abraham. The ball was played in close and the Gator defense couldn’t clear and the ball would bounce right the Abraham and he would chip in thanks to the post for the score.
The first half would end 2-1 Gators; the Gators would get its third goal of the game at the 50th minute. The Gators got a free kick just inside the mid-field from a BRHS foul. Conner Poche would send the free kick to the right side of the goal about 8 yds out to find a leaping Briggs Bourgeois who would send the header in for the 3 goal of the game.
After the Gators 3rd goal BRHS started to really push forward with several runs but didn’t get one quality shot until the 70th minute. The Gators would commit a foul just outside the 18, Josh Hulgan would take the free kick and pound it in for the score.
With about 5 minutes to play the Gators brought 10 guys back to defend the Bulldog rush, again with several chances with the Gator D holding tight they would secure the win 3-2. Well-played game and Referees did an outstanding job in comparison to Last Monday fiasco.
