The key to a misinformed and delusional spectator: "offsides" It's "offside" If you want to be a soccer snob, then go ahead and keep picking at nits like that. Otherwise just lighten up and enjoy the games a little more!

To review the week, referees in Shreveport, Thibodaux, the LP, Hammond, and St. Tammany have all failed to reach the expectation level of the parents.
The only positive comment made about referees this month on the board was quickly shouted down and reputed.
Sounds like LaPrep most years.

Some things to ponder: >Officiating is not easy on a good field and only worsens as the conditions deteriorate. Many times it is thankless. That is why there is a need for more refs. >Coaching is not easy and having to adjust to the different refing crews and weather/field conditions can and does have a bearing on their tactics in the match. >All players want to win and some will get chippy if they feel it will help. From the stands we cannot see or hear all the action on the field, especially on corner kicks or set pieces. >Being a parent is easy as long as your child does not get injured, Watch him/her play, be supportive (not negative) and enjoy, as it ends all too soon. >Fans (not family of players) have the easiest job of all. Pay the entrance fee, sit back and watch, then go home. Too many times over the years I have been to good games ruined by fans.
If we want soccer to grow, then we need to become FANS of the "game" and not just "our" team. Recognize good play from the other team and acknowledge it, don't blame your players. We all need to set an example for these young men playing on the field by understanding refs are human and to not consider the opposing teams as enemies, but rather challengers to be respected for their efforts. This does not mean poor sportsmanship is to be condoned, that is a problem for the opposing coach and the players' parents to deal with not us. I know how difficult this can be, but we all need to take ownership of our actions. Again, no disrespect to anyone intended just my two cents.

I'm sure it's tough being an official. I remember one time approaching a ref after a game to ask a question, and I could sense the "here we go again" look in his eyes, when he saw me coming up to him. I was just trying to ask about a particular signal he gave during the game, because I didn't know what it meant. He told me what it meant (player came from an offside position), and I thanked him and went on. But, like I said, you could see the look in his eyes that indicated he was bracing for some kind of complaint.
So, I generally try to give officials the benefit of the doubt. There have been a couple times here and there where I thought the officials in a game did a terrible job, though, either through not controlling the game well or appearing to favor one side or the other.

SPS/Northshore and Denham/Zachary...seems like two battles to me. I am sure the referee was chosen to work each of these games based on his ability, and trust his judgment. No referee is going to call a perfect game, even at the highest of stages. So what I would say to him is, continue on the path that got you where you are now. You have the ability to self-assess and the humility to accept feedback from your peers. Many will critique but few will have legitimate points. You do a pretty good job and I look forward to working more with you in the future. I know what you're capable of and I've got your back.

Zachary and Denham play again Monday night at Zachary. Should be a great match. A little too close to the previous game.

I asked my daughter of she wanted to take ref classes. She said the pay wouldn't come close to paying for the psychological counseling she would need. It's a hard job.

I asked my daughter of she wanted to take ref classes. She said the pay wouldn't come close to paying for the psychological counseling she would need. It's a hard job. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using proboards What I've come to realize is that it's soccer. It's contact. For the most part, the kids are out there playing hard and not intentionally committing fouls. It's a hard game. Both sides parents thinks the other sides kids plays dirty and that they're coached to play that way. Doubt it. Being a ref is tough. It's easy to ref from the stands. Us parents get emotional and act more stoopid than the kids on the fields when a foul is against our kids. Unless a fight breaks out, let the refs make a call, or not, but let them play. Cheer, fuss, but don't cuss and get aggressive. It's a WHO DAT game!

Regarding this discussion on officiating - I'm borrowing from Robert Graves, but I think it especially applies for a soccer official (CR):
"Bullfight critics row on row crowd the enormous plaza de toros, but only one is there who knows, and he's the one who fights the bull."

One of the best in the state is a woman and she can run circles around me. Cmon man. Same comment for the men refs that were at that game as well. Not intended to be directed at the gender. Sorry..
