This is a good time to remind ourselves:
Contact your local media - Get the word out! Use print, broadcast or internet based outlets if you can. Local papers are always looking for interesting items to put in their papers. If you have contacts, give them a call and let them know about the playoff games yor team are involved in. If your school or athletic boosters have a Facebook page or other social media, post the game date and time on it. That's what those sites are for. If the local paper doesn't or can't send someone out to cover the game, have a parent or student who is good at photography take some nice action shots and send a couple of the best ones in with the score and maybe a short write-up.
Spread the word in old-school ways - Make sure the grandparents and other relatives of your players know when and where the game is. Have the school announce it with their regular announcements. Encourage the players to spread the word to the other sports teams and the whole student body. Maybe even put up fliers at the school (within the rules of course).
I doubt any of the rec leagues are in season right now but if so, maybe try to spread the word to them. Some of the younger kids might enjoy seeing some High School playoff soccer.

The story was meant more as an overview of the top teams that had won their respective districts and were hosting first-round games.

Just saying the Acadiana Advocate went a bit further in recognizing the midlevel qualifiers as well. Gives the warm fuzzy to a larger viewership, kinda like their All-Metro teams usually do.

It's great seeing those articles. Looks like the New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Monroe and Lafeyette areas are getting good coverage. Anybody from Shreveport, Alexandria or the Houma/Thibodaux area seeing any coverage yet? Going to try to post an article from our local paper. Since it only comes out once a week and submission deadline is noon Monday, it was put in before the final seeding and brackets were known: www.etypeservices.com/SWF/LocalUser/newsexaminer1//Magazine76755/Full/index.aspx?id=76755#/7/zoomed

Houma had a very small mention on the teams that made it and that was it I talked with one of the sports writers at the Houma and Thibodaux papers and it looked like they are planning coverage of the home team games in their market, at least as much as they can. There are 4 games tonight and they might not be able to cover all of those. Stories should be in the paper and online sports site: BayouPreps.com. For folks in Bastrop, there should be stories about both the boys against EDW and girls against Vandy there the day after each game.

Agreed. One of the coaches asked me to handle media connections this year, so after each game I send stats, scoring info, and a few other notes to the local media (including smaller newspapers and radio stations around our parish). You have to push it. This year was a learning experience -- I know more what to expect for the future. Also, find out what each media outlet wants and needs, and especially when their deadlines are, so you can make it as easy as possible for them.
