This brings back memories of Ben Franklin going into Lafayette as the #3 seed against #2 Teurlings two years ago and coming from behind in a tough environment to make the final against #1 Vandebilt. Almost the EXACT same scenario tonight, somewhat uncanny...but without the excitement of overtime, unfortunately.
This year it's STM going ahead early, BF tying it up, STM going ahead again, and BF tying it right before halftime 2-2. Then BF scores 3 straight in the second half before STM gets one for 5-3 final.
BF's scoring: 3 sweet finishes by Alex Thomas from Eleanor Pratt assists. 4th scored by Noelle Higginson, rebounded from her sister Cadie's attempt off a corner. 5th was Thomas's fourth goal with a convincing PK after a handball.
St Thomas More played a great game, clearly came out with the intent to be very physical and not back down against the defending champs. Worked for a long time, gave Ben Franklin a real scare, but BF eventually took control. STM didn't go down without a fight and scored the last goal of the game. Great atmosphere at STM tonight for an exciting match. Ben Franklin gets their final against #1 Loyola.

Congratulations to a very talented and special team at Ben Franklin. Very humble and unegotistical group for as much success as they have had. Truly a model for good sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
I'm so proud of STM, they bought in early to a new philosophy & coaching style and showed so much desire, passion, and skill tonight. Future is very bright for STM (as we get Amelia and a core of talented juniors returning) and we hope to start a run greater than Ben Franklin's current moving forward.
As for my seniors, you made this season special, I am so privileged that I was able to be apart of your senior year and coach such wonderful people. I pray you all remember the special moments we created this season and continue to seize many more in your life ahead. "Carpe Diem"
Coach Daniel Underwood St. Thomas More

Coach Daniel, it was a pleasure to watch you coach and your team compete. The fans were kind and inviting, the parents so accommodating and the teams played hard and left everything on the field. Thanks for your hospitality and best of luck to STM in the future!

Where was the defense? Eight goals in a semi final, very strange looks like a offensive game on score board, EDW held STM to less than 10 shots on goal, I didn't see that much scoring happening in this semi figured it would be a 1-0 game but who knew

I don't THINK St Thomas More had 10 shots on goal, but I may be wrong for that matter BF may not even had that many but both teams took full advantage of their opportunities. there was definitely defense being played though. Not one of those goals came easy for either team. I have the highlight video ready but have been hit with a gag order until after finals! :-(

Over the last two years, this has become a friendly, respectful, rivalry. Unfortunately, it has only been in the semi finals and finals. I think the powers that be need to get together and schedule a BF/STM game during the season.
