Awful across the board. 3-4 team districts are all that is needed with power ratings So that teams can play six games and make the playoffs? So that a bunch more automatic bids can make a 24-team field? I would hope that most of these 6-8 team districts will only play each other once, but as long as that's the case I don't see the harm in most of the districts being 6-8 teams. Travel may be worse for some, but in a 7-team district that plays a single round-robin, you're only traveling for three district matches. Also, guaranteeing that teams play a slightly broader mix of opponents should make it less likely for power rating flukes to occur. six district games and at least 9 out of district games for a total of 15 game. Have to enforce 15 game minimal to make playoffs. not just being moved to the bottom of the bracket. play 15 to get in or you miss out, even if you win district and played 14 games undefeated. (I know crazy)you can win district playing six games but you must play a total of 15 to make playoffs. obviously this is just my opinion on the matter

Looks a little harsh for Thomas Jefferson building program and they are on west bank will have to cross bridge and lake on those salmen and lakeshore games. they probably should have been in that next district with all those west bank teams and put De Lasalle in the other district. But really nothing crazy in D2

At Covington we played one round (2 home and 5 away) in district play but everyone still met the 15 match limit. With a four team district playing two rounds it is only a one match difference. Now a three team district is another story IMO.

According to the email from LHSAA any objections or concerns about this plan have to be submitted to BJ Guzzardo and Jimmy Anderson by 4:00 PM on Feb 23. After that dis be da law! Holy crap! BJ Guzzardo is as old as dirt and barely knew anything about wrestling when he was in charge of it. Now he has this task in his hands, no wonder things are convoluted. As I said earlier, "geniuses" at work. Once he believes he has it right, good luck in trying to change his mind. He needs to be removed from this process immediately.

for rivalry's sake i can understand Chalmette with the Catholic schools, but we've never beaten one in our history... why not grace king, they might actually win that district

They released updated districts for class 5A/4A etc. on the LHSAA website. Anyone have a second draft of soccer districts?

But really nothing crazy in D2 Thought that was slightly odd at first too, then I looked at the other district and am curious as to why they are not in a district with Shaw, Helen Cox, West Jeff, and Landry-Walker - all West Bank schools if I am not mistaken. Give that these are preliminary, could they request to change that? Thoughts on the following? District 6: Ben Franklin, Holy Cross, Lakeshore, Salmen (This was the district 3-4 years ago minus Pearl River and Hammond) District 7: East Jeff, Riverdale, De La Salle District 8: Shaw, Helen Cox, Landry-Walker, Thomas Jefferson, West Jeff

[ DISTRICT 6 1. Archbishop Rummel 2. Bonnabel 3. Brother Martin 4. Chalmette 5. Ehret, John 6. Higgins, L.W. 7. King, Grace 8. Jesuit This was also attached so I assume that this is an alternate: DISTRICT 6 1. Bonnabel 2. Ehret, John 3. Higgins, L.W. 4. King, Grace DISTRICT 7 1. Archbishop Rummel 2. Chalmette 3. Brother Martin 4. Jesuit For the public schools sake, the split divisions is better for all sports (sorry Chalmette, you're in a bad position either way). However the combined district would be very diverse across different strength levels for soccer. Jesuit and Brother Martin would battle for the top while Grace King, Rummel, and potentially Bonnabel would battle for third. Ehret has lots of potential and Higgins and Chalmette would finish out the bottom. From some of the strongest to some of the weakest teams in the division. I'm surprised there are so few New Orleans public schools in the top division now. There used to be 3 districts in the top division just in the New Orleans metro region. That wouldn't include the Northshore or River Parishes. There would be the Catholic league, the Jeff Parish Public league, and the Orleans Parish league (never strong in soccer unless you count Warren Easton's ancient teams). Now there's possibly just one district. Is it a combination of Katrina and the magnet/charter schools that have caused this shift? To see Archbishop Shaw, West Jeff, Landry-Walker, Holy Cross, East Jeff, Riverdale, and all the Orleans Parish schools in a lower division is very odd compared to history.

After watching JHS v GK in the playoffs, I'd expect the Irish to be right in the mix for a district title if they end up grouped with the Catholic schools. Lots of talent coming back for GK, and they played a great game against JHS despite a few injuries during that match.
As for the public schools in Orleans: there's quite a few of them (I counted at least 17) but many are small (2A or 3A) and many don't have soccer. Post Katrina there was a lot of movement toward small charter schools. Most of them don't have fields and don't have lots of money to spend on sports. And even the bigger schools are mostly 4A and not 5A.

They have made a total mess out of New Orleans. Well, can't help the larger divisions, but in Division IV, this may become a counter propose.
Proposed by LHSAA, three districts Note: Red* - have not fielded team in last two (or more) years. Note: Blue** - does not play for district honors.
DISTRICT IV-6 1. Covenant Christian 2. Houma Christian 3. Newman, Isidore 4. Riverside Academy 5. St. Charles
DISTRICT IV-7 1. Ecole Classique* 2. Lutheran 3. Country Day 4. Ridgewood* 5. St. Martin’s
DISTRICT IV-8 1. Fisher* 2. Haynes Academy 3. Taylor, Patrick**
Revised proposal, two districts:
DISTRICT IV-6 1. Covenant Christian 2. Houma Christian 4. Riverside Academy 5. St. Charles 6. Haynes Academy 7. Taylor, Patrick**
DISTRICT IV-7 1. Ecole Classique* 2. Lutheran 3. Country Day 4. Ridgewood* 5. St. Martin’s 6. Newman, Isidore 7. Fisher*

They have made a total mess out of New Orleans. In Division IV, we may counter propose this: Proposed by LHSAA DISTRICT 6 1. Covenant Christian 2. Houma Christian 3. Newman, Isidore 4. Riverside Academy 5. St. Charles DISTRICT 7 1. Ecole Classique 2. Lutheran 3. Metairie Park Cntry. Day 4. Ridgewood 5. St. Martin’s DISTRICT 8 1. Fisher 2. Haynes Academy 3. Taylor, Patrick Revised: DISTRICT 6 1. Covenant Christian 2. Houma Christian 4. Riverside Academy 5. St. Charles 6. Haynes Academy 7. Taylor, Patrick DISTRICT 7 1. Ecole Classique 2. Lutheran 3. Metairie Park Cntry. Day 4. Ridgewood 5. St. Martin’s 6. Newman, Isidore 7. Fisher Your proposal would never pass muster with LHSAA because it makes sense and is what we need. Larger districts.

Well, not really larger because IV-6 would only be five teams (Pat Taylor will never play for district), and IV-7 would only be four teams because others have not fielded a team for years (possibly wold be only three teams because Lutheran may drop their program soon ... it is 50-50 coed now).
Still, this proposal makes much better sense than the LHSAA. Schools are scrambling now to get revised propsal in on time.
I agree on need for larger, balanced districts to limit the gaming of the computer program, but also need to be balanced.

Still better than two or three team districts.
Larger districts are good for reasons beyond the gaming of the PR. They make a district title mean something. They create rivalries which are healthy for interest in the sport.
I think Taylor will build a viable program at some point. It attracts a similar academic minded student body like Franklin or Lusher and it is just a fact that smarter people like soccer.. ;-}

HELP - got call, cannot find the posting of the preliminary districts on the LHSAA web site (link in this line doesnt seem to work on our computers). No one seems to know how to make a counter-proposal. Several schools are scrambling around, calling each other etc.
Please don't laugh but none of these schools have ever made a counter proposal for composition of distrcts.
Can someone post the cliff notes on how to do it, who does it, what form it takes, and to whom it is made? Thanks

Link to our website article which has the actual released pages that were emailed to principals that included both genders. Note that these are preliminary and teams not happy need to get their principals to get with others to come up with counter proposal ASAP and send in to Lhsaa asap! laprepsoccer.net/wp/new-preliminary-soccer-districts-released/Chad, can't access that link. The Principal is out, hasty discussions are underway with Newman, CD, others... but no one seems to know how to counter propose. Can you help ASAP? Who at school does it, how is it done, to whom is it addressed, is there a form? Thanks

It is truly difficult to make a counter-proposal for the handful of schools THAT WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RELEASED DISTRICTS. How does your school make a counterproposal when your school is not included in the soccer redistricting? That is borderline incompentence by whomever made the first list to not make a check to see if every school was listed.

There is no form. Check your email and PMs. Thank you for forwarding the information. It is gratefully appreciated. Here is the wording forwarded by Timbertwin: " Schools will have until 4:00 p.m., Monday, February 23, 2015 to make a written response/recommendation to the LHSAA of any changes they would like to have considered. There is no form for these responses/recommendations. Please send the written requests via email or fax to Jimmy Anderson and B.J.Guzzardo ( janderson@lhsaa.org or bguzzardo@lhsaa.org). The fax number is 225.296.5919. Be sure your request includes all schools in all districts affected by your proposal." And here is still some interpretation problems. Beyond the grammatical mistakes, this communication first says to send proposals to Mr. X AND Mr. Y. Then it immediately list E-mails for Mr. X OR Mr. Y. No biggie, but here is the real kicker. What the heck does this mean? "Be sure your request includes all schools in all districts affected by your proposal?" Do all schools in all districts have to sign off? Be contacted? Agree? We will simply E-mail in the counter proposal with reasons for it. hopefully that will suffice.
