Even as a sophomore, Bolton's Nic Mboungo (surely I misspelled that) deserves recognition. He scored both game winners against us this season. One with a few minutes remaining and one with less than 20 seconds remaining. He is clutch and continues to score in these playoffs.
Miles McGuire and #16 from BF are also very deserving.
Ashton Reel from Sulphur as well as Cam from Denham Springs.
For my homer picks that will probably fall short sadly due to a lack of a deep run in the playoffs:
William Thomas - #4 - CB - Leesville I am yet to see him get beat one on one. He is a big reason why we only allowed more than 2 goals once and that game we gave up 3 with only 9 men for the 2nd half.
Pablo Chaves - #22 - CM - Leesville 26 goals and 8 assists on the year for a sophomore is pretty impressive in my book. This kid is dangerous with the ball at his feet and consistently was double and sometimes triple defended. Goals against teams like Bolton, Benton, Rapides, and Morgan City prove he didn't just score on middling teams.
I like to think any team that opposed us would vouch for these players.

Okay, I feel the need to inject a little realism here.
First, the vast majority of college soccer players don't graduate at 24 or 25. If a player goes straight out of high school and even redshirts a year, they are generally 22-23.
The Richmond Academy is not necessarily a direct path to professional football. Like any college experience, it costs money. From what I read, it's around 35K a year US dollars.
College soccer has it's problems. But anyone that thinks the vast majority of players aren't training the entire school year (NCAA rules or not) they are sadly mistaken.
Yeah those players get student visas so they can maybe make a few bucks on the weekend playing in the 9th-10th tier of English football. (Typically) But is that really much different from playing for a decent American college team?
Nope.

What is VERY CHALLENGING when rating nominations like this is the simple fact of who keeps stats for teams. There will obviously be severely over inflated stats; assists awarded when no assist was warranted.etc. If you end up voting based on stats, you may be inclined to believe everything you read. There are players who don't have the numbers for multiple reasons.coach pulls starters, his contributions are creating chances for other players.things of that nature. There really is no true gauge except for the "obvious" few kids who are head and shoulders above the rest. I know of a few local teams who award assists where players made passes in which the attacker he passed to dribbled by two defenders and covered 15 yards before taking a shot and scoring. For example, if 98% of your goals scored have at least one assist, it's probably inaccurate. (130 goals with 126 assists) These types of stats obscure the true talent on display. Good luck to all !

Mason Cook from Northlake Christian is a monster. Agile. Good touch. Should definitely be named among the rest of the players previously mentioned such as Kobetz and Rushing.

Coach, I agree with you in general. Stat keeping has a lot of variation throughout the state. My intent was to try and use some objective means to back up some opinions. There are a number of division I players that have been singled out early on this thread including (deservedly) a couple of your guys. I agree with that, but don't want to overlook div III and III or defensive players. In my thinking Juan Carlos Brita and Mitchell Williams both have enough quality to be considered with say Kade and Sal. Also Colin Hanley in goal. Hanley signed with Niagra and hall97's comments notwithstanding, Williams has a chance to go play next level as well. Maybe beau Chene coach and warrior16 could provide some specific stats or case for Brita and Williams? i don't have more than an opinion, but Mason Cook looked very good when I saw him in Lake Charles and Koebetz looked in good form for the 30 min or so I saw him play. Also, another possible consideration is the all-star selections. Unless I'm mistaken, everyone I have mentioned is on one of the sides. Just my thoughts.

Actlally there are a few key players missing.....AllStar selctions are somewhat suspect..... more of a "spread the love" approach than a real selction of the real talent in the state.

Also need to add that Mitchell is a very good player and deserves the recognition, I agree, however, with Hall97, Richmond is a "Pay-toPlay" outfit.....much like SuperClubs or Global Image Sports. Been there - Done that - Got the T-shirt (literally).
He will be in the right place....If he has the desire and the talent and works hard and makes the right connections....he'll have his shot. I wish him all the best!!

I'm certainly not taking anything away from Williams as a player. That was not the point of my post concerning the RIASA program.
I just don't like the "creative license" that the Advocate journalist took with the story.
I did some fact checking on RIASA. It states on their website that their players train 3 days a week and usually play a midweek "showcase" game and a league game (in the 9th tier) on weekends.
College soccer in the states may currently have its primary season in the fall, but the players spend the spring training several days a week. With a few games mixed in. And the better players usually find opportunities to play for NPSL/PDL teams in the summer.
People also need to understand that, talent/ability aside, it is very, very difficult for Americans to play in Europe. Especially in England. That's due more to work permit issues than actual playing ability.
As for all state caliber players, there definitely are some worthy that are north of I-10. But, due to geography and matters of circumstance, they will be overlooked.
That's why, for practical reasons, the all state teams really should be called all tournament teams.
It's a lot easier to stand out when you play on a high caliber team.
