What an exciting week for High School Soccer! With all of the State Finals set and the first ever (7th annual) All Star game during the high school season, Louisiana is set for 8 high quality soccer games this week. Below is the Team schedule for All Star Saturday. Thanks to all of the LHSSCA coaches who are helping to work not only the All Star event, but all of the State Championships as well. It should be an exciting week to showcase our great sport! Look for more information during this week! Doug Hamilton President, LHSSCA Attachment Deleted

Why would the All Star game be on the same weekend as the championships? You are surely omitting many of the best players in the state as they will have just played or will play that evening.

Brilliant planning! Some stars would be a better name for it.

Hasn't the All-Star game suffered in the past by taking place well outside the season in a time of year when many players end up missing it? I heard this was an attempt to play the All Star game at a point when all the players are still fresh off their seasons, not off on vacation or busy with club, etc. Plus many will already be there for playoff finals. Kinda makes sense to me, if not for the DI championship later on the same day. Maybe a day or two later would've been great for those in the DI championship

Only the Division I players selected to be all stars that play in finals that night won't play. They still, however, will get their honors just as Super Bowl players who don't get to play in Pro Bowl still do. The D2 and D3 players in finals are playing in all star game. This is our best option in our opinion as the next week is Dallas cup and other showcases for the club players and officially the start of U15 and older club season. This was our best option, voted on at LHSSCA meeting and we think will draw the best crowd ever and the kids will be in shape and ready to go! Plus it won't be 100 degrees and a month or two after they have finished school and have no authority over them. Plus many players were missing for habing to report to their college teams also. Some had also jaut turned down the nominations because they were "finished" playing and had already started college life. This way, they are srill in shape (already mentioned) plus still under authority of their schools and still high schoolers.

Anyone at the game? Should be about half-time. How's it going?

Neither team is in white jerseys, this is totally against the rules.

I have a few things to vent about and will probably submit in writing to the LHSAA or attend the next meeting. 1. It is ill planned to play this game knowing two teams in the top division will not have representatives. This NEVER happens in football or basketball!
2. When an athlete drops out there is no way in h*** two of those spots should go to the all star head coach's high school team when kids like Makaylah Morrell, Maddie Stansbury, Emily Ellison, MJ Willimas were not honored. A system with integrity should be put in place where all athletes are treated fairly no matter the school they attend unless the coach's team gets the nod because LHSAA wants to thank them for volunteering. Otherwise teams in the finals or semis should get the nod first.
3. Each kid should get to start a half and the minutes should be equal. New Orleans and Mandeville athletes were given approximately 10 minutes less than kids from Slidell metro area and they had playing restrictions, ALL kids should have to adhere to the restrictions and playing time not be slighted because of their zip code.
All in all a beautiful day for soccer. It was nice to see so many familiar faces, good luck and best wishes to all of the seniors and their families.

F y i. In college men's and women's basketball. The national all star games are played on the final four weekend in all divisions. Div I 2 3 as well as at the NAIA level.
I agree with altos mom. Of the 80 schools in the eastern half of the state, only 12 were represented in the all star game. There are many other players out there who are going to play at the next level (college) and deserve consideration

My issue is the selection of some of the players. I understand that we want as much equal representation as possible but the West will continue to get demolished if certain schools nominate players that aren't even club players but only play in high school. An 8-0 score line doesn't do much to promote it as an All Star game. I know it is difficult for the selection committee to know every player, especially from the outlying areas but there has to be a better system to identify players.

This is just an idea.... have coaches nominate at beginning of season. Have opposing coaches rate players that have been nominated.
Not perfect but you get input from people who have actually seen them play and may be somewhat unbiased. These could be either the selection or just a factor.

West vs east is very silly, Put all the All stars in a draft, let the two coaches have a draft by postions for their first 11 than whomever you want till all rosters are filled. That way the talent can be placed on both sides! I watched an east team play like it was the FIFA championship and winning team was to get a bonus for the win, while the west was having a fun time enjoying the day.
