Congratulations to St. Michael senior forward Mitchell Williams for hitting the century mark in career goals. His free kick against Franklin turned out to be his 100th career goal, and 46th of the season.
Up until tonight, I had Mitchell's career goal total at 99. We rechecked the stats from every game this season thoroughly to make sure we hadn't made any mistakes in transferring the stats to Max Preps, and it turns out we had. Instead of correctly giving him two goals in the first game against Belaire, we had only put one on MaxPreps, so he finished with 45 goals instead of 46. That one goal was all he needed to become the first boys player in program history to hit the century mark. Not sure if any girls have done it.
Brock Hollier for Beau Chene and I think Jarrian Cutrer for ESA have also done this in the past few years, but it is still a very rare achievement for a high school player. Blake Dalferes at Pope looks well on his way. I've been told that Andrew Malinich and Luca Alessandrini for Lusher Charter also passed the century mark last year.
In his first two years, we used him more in the midfield than up top to take advantage of his excellent possession skills, but as our midfield became more and more solid, we became able to play him more up top and he's become quite the goalscorer.
Here are his career stats:
2011-12 4 goals & 8 assists 2012-13 19 goals & 4 assists 2013-14 31 goals & 15 assists 2014-15 46 goals & 16 assists
Career 100 goals & 43 assists

Fourth player by my count, to hit this mark from the Baton Rouge area; the first from an EBR school. Others in the Century Club from BR area:
Jason Garey (St Amant) Jarrett Gautreau (Dutchtown) Jaxon Lambert (St Amant)
Not bad company.
Some interesting trivia: three if the four were stronger with their left foot (while still being pretty good with the off foot as well)...Garey was right footed.

I don't think anyone will ever break Jason Garey's scoring records, especially with a mercy rule in place. He regularly scored 3 or 4 goals a game for four years. Brock Hollier wasn't too far away, but there was still a considerable gap.
Only way I can see someone passing him is a very talented player at a K-12 or 6-12 school being a starter for five or six years in a relatively weak district.

Rumor is one of the Millets at De La Salle had 190ish in early 90's
Also think Ryan Reid was close to 100

As parents, we try to be supportive, yet at the same time give Mitchell as much room as possible to put his own signature on his different endeavors. Following p_malinich's lead from last year, this is a good time to step in to say:
Good job son...what a great accomplishment! We're proud of you and have thoroughly enjoyed watching you and your teammates this year.
This is a great time to say "thank you" to all the teammates, past and present, that helped Mitchell cross this threshold. Its amazing how much detail Mitchell can remember about passes or different games with teammates going back to his freshmen season. Also, we would be remiss not to thank all of the coaches (across the state as well) that have had a hand in his development as a player (most through club, but many that are/were high school coaches too): Michael Ritch (Lafayette), Pat Bueno(BR), Willie Davis(BR), Coach Macca (New Orleans), Coach Godwin (ret. Alexandria area),Josh Saboe, Marvin Smith, Chris Mitchell and Gary Buete (all BR).
Readers may notice that we left out the St. Michael's coaches from the above list. That was in order to specifically single them out. A big thank you is in order to the St. Michael's coaches for all of their work and efforts: Coach Paul Fletcher, Coach Estuardo, Coach Pip and Coach Kyle. Under Paul's leadership, you guys provided the structure of a program that has provided Mitchell and his teammates a lifetime of memories. Based on how much he spoke about all of the St. Michael coaches, we know each of you guys positively impacted Mitchell and we are sure his teammates as well. Well done and thank you.

We unintentionally left out one obvious thank you...Michael Stein aka warrior16. Without his diligence on stats and posts, this threshold might have escaped notice.
Thank you, Michael Stein!

Garey was on another level in high school. When I first started hearing about his stats I figure he was boosting numbers vs bad teams. So I went to watch him. First game I saw of his was against Catholic BR ranked about #5. They kept three guys on him all game and he still managed to score 4 goals. In high school I thought he was better than Dwayne Jones, Patrick Mullins, and Joseph Lapira.

As an update, Mitchell officially committed to RAISA this morning. We are so proud of the excellent player and excellent young man he has become.
I will keep y'all updated of his progress, maybe in a separate thread.

First of all, I'd like to say congratulations to Mitchell for this huge accomplishment. As a player from Teurlings I can truly say that he has a very impressive amount of skill and athleticism. I would just like to know if his goal count is from just varsity or varsity and jv. Either way, congratulations.

I would just like to know if his goal count is from just varsity or varsity and jv. Either way, congratulations. Just from his four years on Varsity. Any stats from non-Varsity play do not count towards state or career tallies.
Mitch was a Varsity starter for us all four years, and he only played on JV when we were short on players.
Teurlings has a very bright future based on what I saw in our playoff game. Best of luck to you!
