I have been a member of this board for some time, joining back when I was a HS coach at Ouachita Christian School in Monroe and have remained as a quiet, casual member (observer) during the time I have been at Louisiana College.
Some may be aware of this, but most not. My days in Louisiana are drawing to a close. Moving to Louisiana in 1999, I immediately jumped into the club soccer scene at NELSA and would a few years later come into the HS environment as boys and girls coach at Ouachita Christian. Before making the move to Pineville as the women's coach at Louisiana College starting in 2010 and being actively involved with Crossroads Soccer Association in Alexandria since that point as well. And during the past 9 or 10 years, actually have lost count, I have been on the state coaching staff as coach of a number of different age groups in ODP and a coaching instructor.
Just a few short weeks ago, I accepted an opportunity to go to Springfield, Missouri and become the director of soccer operations and head soccer coach at Evangel University and take the lead on an effort to launch two brand new soccer programs. We will be on the field this fall with teams.
It will be kind of odd to go to a soccer complex in the next few months and not hear, "Coach Bruce" and look up to see a player that I was privileged to coach come running up to greet me. Those have indeed been special moments in my years of involvement in Louisiana Soccer.
And although it does seem so inadequate at this moment, I just want to say THANK YOU and God's BLESSINGS, to all the players, parents, coaches who I had the privilege of sharing this beautiful game with over the years. My relationship with many of you started in one of those previously mentioned capacities but I am exceedingly blessed that many of those initial connections have resulted in wonderful friendships going forward, that will indeed be one of my most cherished possessions from my time in Louisiana!
I do hope to maintain my connection to Louisiana, as I am certain that I will be reaching out to some folks to have them consider spending a few years in the Ozarks with me at Evangel!!
God's blessings,
Bruce Deaton (aka Coach Bruce)
