What is the rule about how many players from a coach's school that can be on their club team? Just trying to get clarification regarding a conversation I was having with another parent.

What about coaching an 8th grader during the club season and that player will attend the same high school of the coach next season? The school district still has attendance zones. Would that rule apply and would the player have to sit out?

Would that rule apply and would the player have to sit out? It would not apply unless they are under the same principal from my understanding (thus attending the same school). The player, since not attending that school in that club season, is eligible to play as well as the coach eligible to coach. It would have to be playing club ball while attending that school under the same school/club term year.

Would that rule apply and would the player have to sit out? Is the 8th grade part of the high school or a separate school? if it's a separate school with a different principal than the high school, then it's ok and doesn't count as one of the 6 students from high school that the coach can coach. If if its same campus that has 7 and 8 grade with high school like many smaller schools do, then it does count as one of the 6 students. the penalty is actually a fine and coach is suspended for year.

I am not sure of this, but have heard a new Lsa rule that says if a 8th grader is coached in club by the high school coach that they attend the next year they do have to sit out a year. I know our club has had to adjust coaching assignments based on this.

Check LHSAA Recruiting 2.1.5. in rules. According to our club, it includes 8th to 9th grade. Can be asst coach of JV team of girls team & you have son that will play on varsity boys. Our club has talked about this since spring 2014. Most our coaches coach in high school. It has been tough to find coaches who are not. not only have to worry U14, but have to pay attention to grade of player on U13 & U15. Also heard, rule has lot to do with Caddo Parish magnet system. Essentially, magnet pretty much gets rid of school attendance zones in parish.

There are no LSA rules regarding this. All rules governing high school soccer as referenced here are LHSAA rules, not LSA rules.

True, there are no LSA rules regarding high school recruiting/eligibility. But the club your child plays for had better know the LHSAA rules, because the LHSAA does have rules regarding coaching players that are in the 8th grade about to enter high school and other rules that affect the players they coach. The LHSAA recruiting rule 2.1.5 should be considered very important by the LSA and all Louisiana youth soccer clubs when making coaching decisions.
