Kickoff just minutes away in Louisiana Fire's first game at the USYS National Championships!
The team will have to deal with some adversity today, as coach Macca cannot be there in the first game. Noelle Higginson also unable to play until tomorrow, and Eleanor Pratt unable to attend. But the girls are excited and ready to go!

0-0 at halftime against Carlsbad Elite in Game 1. Carlsbad is one of the 2-3 main favorites here, having won their 8-team national league bracket undefeated this season. So a strong defensive effort from Louisiana Fire in the first half under the adversity of absences. Carlsbad definitely with more possession/shots, but Fire looking to be dangerous on the counter and will hope to grow in confidence in second half.

Carlsbad scores with maybe 5 min left. Louisiana Fire down 0-1.

Final score 0-1. So nearly pulled off a tie against a phenomenal opponent without Noelle and Eleanor, incredible fighting effort by the whole team but too much to overcome and withstand. Coach Macca returns to the sidelines tomorrow, Noelle can play again, and we will need an inspired performance against the 2-time defending champs in what is likely a must win game.

In my experience, adversity is a great ally in winning championships. They will, more than ever, do their prep for game #2 now and tonight. Stay positive and stay focused. Our prayers are with you.

Fire lost 0-2 to two-time defending national champions DMCV Sharks from California. A very respectable first half by Fire ended in a one-goal deficit from an own goal. Once Sharks doubled the lead with a nice cross and header early in the second half, Fire struggled to get back into the game. Early suspicions that Fire had been placed in the more difficult group seem to be founded, as the general feeling is that Fire has lost to the two best teams in the country in its first two games. Still very proud of the battling effort to hang with teams of such high quality. Fire cannot advance, and will finish the tournament tomorrow against the Beadling Gunners from Pennsylvania (Region I Champs).
Actually, the first goal has been credited to the Sharks player on the tournament website, so I may be mistaken -- it may have already gone in before Gabby got back to make the lunge that kicked it into the net.

La Fire Navy.... a tremendous and outstanding run of highly competitive play for so many years and great keeping by Sam at the Nationals 2015. Congratulations to each player and their coaches for all their hard work and much success to each player in all your future endeavors.
