Clemson Advances to NCAA College Cup with PK Win Over Maryland Friday
CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior midfielder Thales Moreno scored a goal in regulation as well as the winning penalty kick, and redshirt junior goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell came up with two incredible saves on PKs, to send the No. 2 National Seed Clemson men’s soccer team to the NCAA College Cup on Friday night at Historic Riggs Field. The Tigers (17-2-3) tied No. 10 Maryland 1-1, and advanced 3-1 in penalty kicks, to reach the College Cup for the first time in 10 years, and just the eighth time in program history. Complete Article

Clemson advanced to the championship game of the NCAA College Cup as they tied Syracuse 0-0 in the semifinal game, then won 4-1 in penalty kicks. Andrew Tarbell (former Mandeville Soccer Club and Fontainebleau High player, for those new to the board) had eight saves in goal for Clemson, and added a PK save during the shootout. Clemson will play Stanford for the national championship on Sunday after Stanford advanced in PKs (8-7, went 10 rounds) over Akron.

So proud of our Louisiana boys doing well in college. I'm sure Tarbell is on the radar of many MLS teams, and might go high in the draft for a team looking for a new goalkeeper like LA Galaxy.
Stanford will be tough to beat. They're loaded with talent, including US national team player Jordan Morris. Clemson has a great team, but it would be a bit of a surprise if they take home the national title over Stanford, in my opinion. Watch the match at 1 pm CT on ESPNU.

I was at the ACC playoff game when Syracuse beat NC State. At the time Syracuse was really starting to hit their stride (hence only getting #6 ranking in the tourney). They seemed like UVA last yaer (who carried #6 to a National Championship). Clemson has been legit all year.
I watched online when Stanford get by #1 Wake Forest in the quarters. Wake was essentially #1 all season and features John Harkes' son Ian. Stanford's Morris scored in the 18th and then Harkes equalized on a PK in the 70th. In overtime, Stanford gets a PK and hits the crossbar, but 2 minutes later (or less) finds the net to win. Stanford was probably the slightly better team that night. At #8 Stanford has gone thru 3 top 10 teams en route to the final (#9 Ohio State, #1 Wake Forest, and now #4 Akron).
At this level, it's very competitive, and I think it should be a good matchup. I'll play the odds and go with the ACC representative Clemson. They face the best of the best on a regular basis. And 6 of the last 8 National Champions have been from the ACC.

Stanford wins 4-0. Jordan Morris with two goals. Will almost certainly go pro now.
