Just curious when kicking off, a player started before the ball was touched standing several feet over midfield. She then received the ball and kicked it back to her midfield. This happened every restart. Is this legal? I see the advantages of it as you eliminate the opponents possibly getting to the ball.

By law and rule, players must be in their own half prior to the ball being kicked off. And the referee would certainly be in his right to wait until they are. Practically, this is often overlooked as a non-issue, just as a couple other situations are, when players routinely find the action acceptable. The same can be said about a GK during a penalty and being exactly in the line vs one step.
If it's a yard, I'm OK. 3 yards, probably not.
