My daughter wants to play soccer in college so just started looking at schools and camps, she is a Junior. She wants to stay in Louisiana, has mostly played competitive and been to some camps in NC and LSU. Anyone have tips or advice on what to do and what not to do? Do all the schools in La have their own camps? Any regional or school camps you thought were worth it or ones you would not recommend? Did you do video to send to coaches? Did you have your daughter contact the coaches directly or do you have to go through the school website or something? Just trying to figure out how to get started and best approaches.

I started with NSU's one day ID camp. They had mostly in state or south Texas school there with them. They gave good education on how the process works and what the contact rules are. And it wasn't expensive to do. I do think ID camps are best for exposure to coach's.

Most of the schools have a place on their website to fill out a recruiting questionnaire -- this is a good place to start, to let the coach know you're interested in the school. If you are going to be playing in an area near a school, send the coach an e-mail with the game info -- it can't hurt. Sending video is also helpful, as every coach we interfaced with wanted video.
We were on the boys side, so I can't help with in-state camps since there are so few schools in Louisiana that have programs for men. If your daughter has a chance to play in one of the big showcase tournaments (CASL, Disney, etc.) that's a good way to get exposure as well. Our son did attend camps at some of the schools he was interested in, and those were a big help.
The recruiting process is exciting and frustrating at the same time. Good luck to your daughter!

We were in your same position last year here's a few things we learned. Make sure they offer the major you want. not all colleges offer everything. visit these colleges, if you don't like them don't go. we cut down the list just by visiting them. I wouldn't stay just in state some of her best offers have come from out of state schools. PROMOTE YOURSELF! have your daughter contact the coaches-send game films, do what ever you can to get noticed good luck

1. Soccer resume on your daughter. Put extensive contact info on it.
2. Contact the coaching staff at the schools he/she is interested in and supply resume and schedule.
3. If possible, get involved with ODP. Most of the things we filled out had questions about ODP.
4. List coach references, i.e. club coaches, hs coaches, ODP coaches. All this is for resume.
5. Keep copies of your players resume with you so when you spot coaches at tournaments, you can hand them one. No need to tie them up with lengthy conversation. Just hand them one and hank them for looking at it.
That's all I can think of right now. We generated interest both by emailing resumes and making direct contact at tournaments. Good luck!

My daughter was offered a scholarship from an out of state college, but the main factor was her being on a recruiting website. Berecruited.com was the one she used and was invited to severalid camps thru that website. Keep in contact with the coaches and make sure they have her video.
