OK. I happen to know a lot of the kids at Catholic on JV and Varsity. Have seen their Varsity play a couple of times. I have a different opinion. I’ve only got one more statement. If any head coach isn’t comfortable playing his top 11 in any program due to pressure and politics that is a failing equation to multiple parties. Nothing should be guaranteed based upon past performance. That’s a negative in my mind. I own a company and I play and pay the best I have. Preparing young men for the world is a bigger priority than hurting little Johnny’s feelings.

This is true, he is the coach of the BR Tornado's, very talented group of kids, and very well coached kids.

That’s some funny Stuff and a great analogy. My point on the JV kids was based on the concepts of St. Paul and Jesuit. The best 11 play and the grade level is irrelevant. There is little to no pecking order. I have no kids playing but do love going and watching between 5-8 games per week. Even More if I can catch rain free tournaments. The catholic program has a great coach and needs zero input from the school or parents. The senior class at catholic this year started with 23(maybe more) club players when they came in as a freshman class. Now there are 18 of them left on the varsity team. Please explain to me why you would want to cut any of those seniors who have given up weekends, and gone to 6am morning workouts, 3 times a week, for 4 or 5 years. The guys on jv are good quality club players, but they knew when coming to catholic that they were entering a program full of club players and they were guaranteed nothing. In that program everything is earned through hard work. and a number 2 overall power ranking. and there you have it, read between the lines...new coach big senor class, hes not going to step on anyones toes evern if it means dropping results... cant believe you listed power rankings as an accomplishment....Jesuit is laughing their a**es off just shows were dealing with a senor's mom

The catholic program has a great coach and needs zero input from the school or parents. I don't know what your level of understanding is of how CHSBR soccer works but as somebody who has been involved in the program for several years I'd like to clear things up. Mateus is one of the best coaches in the baton rouge area. Sanders Davis is the best program manager that you could ask for and does a great job of developing the athletes in the weight room. Kyle Carmouche and BJ (both former chs soccer players) are great coaches with the JV/freshman teams. All of them follow the ideals of the brothers of the sacred heart that the school represents to a T and care for all of their players, regardless of their ability on the field or varsity, jv, freshman status. The program has been on the rise for the last 5 years. Catholic had 1 win at this point in the season 3 years ago when they made it to the finals. This is a program that lost 2 seniors from last year to college programs, which is as many or more than any program in the state. Without giving you details of any individual players financial standing I can guarantee you that wealthy donors to the school have had their student athlete put on JV. I have read your posts over the past few days about the school and program and they are misleading at best and usually untrue. Don't disparage a great program with a good reputation. And please don't disparage any of those coaches who are doing a phenomenal job, just as they have for the past 3 years which included a state finals appearance, a semi, final appearance, and a number 2 overall power ranking. Clearly you have no understanding of how high school soccer works. You have much bigger problems going on with your team if you think that seniors are automatically entitled a position on the team. Do you think top programs like Jesuit or St. Paul’s care about grade level? Absolutely not. Teams like Jesuit win with their best 11, regardless of grade level or who’s mommy or daddy gives the most money to the school. And the fact they you brought your team’s power ranking last season into the argument? We all saw what happened last year when Jesuit fought their way pretty soundly through the entire playoffs not only as a “15” seed but also with a majority underclassmen starting lineup. Wow

With all of this talk aside i'm really excited to see the rest of this year unfold. I think for the first time in a couple of years Division I can be won by any of the top 10 teams. A few stand out from the others of course but some of the scores that have come across indicate a very competitive run to the state finals. I also would say Div II is a toss up. lets see who gets hot at the right time and is able to pull of the key wins!

By the way guys--this is actually Power ranking #2. There was one out the week before. I just happened to look at it and saw they had started with the first week. MY AC team was #16 in the first one, we moved up to #13 this week.
Really cant get too excited about PRs until the week before Christmas. Still lots of teams with less than 7 games played, so they are very skewed below the top 5-6 teams.
And just stop heehawing about Catholic HS. Their team is super deep and there is quality all around. Matteaus does a great job and I don't believe for one second that he would be bullied by parents. Ya know, us coaches, we get to put the players on the field that WE see fit because, well we are the trained professionals. Not parents and hangers on.
Catholic will do just fine and be in the mix in February

Then, why doesn't Catholic's JV play as the V? I suggest a split. Catholic JV and Catholic V should enter the PR as two different teams, play the same district schedule. Wow, what fun that would be! Matteus coaches both.

Congrats to these lads who stuck with it and who are now Champions! This is pretty funny to read with hindsight. The underclassmen playing for CHS in the final this year got a lot of good experience playing Varsity as Freshman and Sophomores they wouldn’t have gotten back when this thread was started.
