Anyone with reports on the game itself? The esteemed reporters from the T-P and Advocate don't understand the difference between extra time and stoppage time, so I don't really know what else they might've gotten wrong. Why was there so much stoppage time? One of the articles mentioned a player going out with cramps. Any other injuries, cards, stoppages besides the goals?

In the second half, a Holy Cross player went down near the BC goal (far end of the field from where I stood). He was down for a few minutes being tended to and had to be helped off directly behind the goal, so that was definitely the source of some stoppage time. There was also an extended sequence late that had three yellow cards issued and the center official going to both the team sidelines and confer with the AR2 that also added some time. The center official was very clear (from what I could see) each time he stopped his watch for any kind of caution (there were others in the half in addition to the three I mentioned), injury (surely the warm, humid conditions played a role in some of the cramping issues) or when the goals were scored.

I was sitting among the BC crowd at the game and near a news reporter. When HC scored the final goal we were well in the 50th minute mark; the reporter held up his phone on stopwatch setting. In my opinion, there was quite a bit of stoppage in the second half over cards, referee warnings, the aforementioned injury (which looked pretty bad at first, I was surprised the HC player came back and finished the match), and of course the goals that were scored. When BC scored from a free kick the BC crowd went nuts, and when HC scored the tying goal, the reaction was insane. 10 minutes might seem like a lot in the normal context, but to be honest I thought the crew did a good job in a setting where the crowd is very close to the field and both sets of supporters were loud and enthusiastic.
I disagree with the assessment that the BC players were waiting on the final whistle to blow after the goal. At the time, even after the goal, BC attackers were consistently giving the HC defense trouble. It really felt like they were going to see the upset through. As a neutral, I thought the real swing in the final part of the match occurred when BC had a player sent off for a second yellow, which happened because this player intervened in a tense moment between one of his own players and a HC player. I don't think the act was done to be malicious at all, but unfortunately this BC player who already had a caution from the 1st half pushed the HC player away instead of grabbing or pushing his own. The HC player and the BC player received matching cautions as a result. I think the game was still 1-0 at that point, but now a day later, thinking back on all this, it could have been 1-1. Maybe someone else can confirm?
It was a very good game. I expected HC to run away with the match and that definitely did not happen, not at all. I'd argue for most of the 2nd half, BC seemed to be the more dangerous side. #10 up top was a menace all night and the free kick goal was very well taken (I think that was BC #12?). Late in the game the HC boys kept their nerves and started playing with more urgency. You could tell kids on both teams gave it their all. I felt very glad to not have any personal interest in the outcome of the game. It was an intense match.

Excellent account thanks 10 and 12 are definite all staters again and I’d say 10 is the offensive mvp of D2. All teams adjust for him every game

Broke my heart to not have him this year, but he will do great things in life. Definitely my vote for All State and Offensive MVP #Dree

Congrats on the win, but let’s put some things in context... This sounds like a brutal loss. I’d be careful not to group any program in with the actions of a few and certainly not with a single parent. I’ll say this- Beau Chene topped us in the quarters and showed plenty of class afterwards- Coach, players, students, and parents alike- and believe it or not, sometimes that’s less common for HS boys after a win than a loss. That being said, anyone that’s been around here for a while knows how emotional games at this point in the season can get- especially for seniors and yes, even adults who are parents of seniors... But to disparage an entire program because of the reaction of one or a few to a seemingly exceptionally dramatic experience is simply out of place and misguided. Period. I wasn’t there, but it sounds like Beau Chene had possible title hopes (finals hopes at the minimum) pulled from their grips in the toughest of ways. It is a cruel game after all, and this game seems to be a prime example. Not to take anything away from Holy Cross- because they’re certainly a quality side- but to go from potentially winning a semi to losing one in the last few minutes is devastating on a level many of you will never understand, especially through the eyes of these young men who have worked as hard as they have to even play in a game of this magnitude. If most of those boys stood tall, shook hands, and held their heads high- then I think that’s only a testament to their character and the integrity of their program. I hope that was the case, I expect that was the case, and given the specificity of your complaint, I assume that the team as a whole acted with class. I’ll still take this opportunity to remind you we’re dealing with young men in a very, very trying situation. I wish the best to both programs in the future, and I hope that the Beau Chene players know they had a phenomenal season and should be proud of their journey and efforts. I wish the best to Chad and every player in their program, and I’ll be expecting to see them at this stage in the future- which by the way, is an impressive accomplishment given their circumstances. All that aside, congrats to Holy Cross on the win and good luck in the finals. They’re without a doubt a deserving team, and I hope the final proves to be as entertaining and hard fought a game as this one must have been. Well said coach Thanks
