Well, 4th time was finally the charm. So proud of my girls for their hard work and sacrifice this year. CoachO is correct that playing a tough schedule was the best decision we made. I added it up and we drove over 5000 miles before the finals this year and played more games than anyone to try and prepare for the playoffs.
We are losing a group of 10 seniors that have been contributors for the last four years and they will be greatly missed. Having four Academic all state members was an awesome achievement so congratulations to Gracie, Sarah, Megan, and Caroline, who have excelled on the field and in the classroom as well.
I have to give recognition to my defense and goalkeepers who rarely get accolades or credit as they were a huge part of our success this season. 14 goals against in 34 games playing the teams we played is a great achievement and they kept us in a lot of games. Sometimes people like to focus on the fact that we are a DIV school to somehow lessen the achievement of making it to the finals or winning because it is only DIV. I think this team proved they could hang with anyone and were willing to play anyone so that should not be a talking point (and isn't for most people).
As for the game, congratulations to ESA for making back to back finals, as I know how difficult that is. Coach Devine has done a great job with their program, even when only having 14 players on the roster. It is difficult to achieve the level of success they have when you start dealing with injuries etc with such a short roster. They were certainly the better team in the first 10 minutes of this game and I was impressed with their build up play and possession. We were lucky not to be down early in this game. Once we settled down and got more organized I felt we did a much better job controlling the game and started creating more chances. Overall it was a good game with some good players that are moving on next year from both teams.
Blessed to share such a great experience with my team and to have my daughter perform well and be recognized as the m.o.p
I am like most coaches so you know what that means...next year starts today!
