I know Loyola is hurting right now as you would expect from such a game. However, they played a great game and they left everything on the field. It truly was a game that did not deserve to have a team lose. The shot by 2 to tie it at 4 was just incredible. After watching the game I felt like I had played. It was just an incredible game.

Agree wholeheartedly. Great game. Can’t imagine the carnage of cramping had the game gone another 10 min and then PKs. Some really high quality goals today. Overall good sportsmanship, fair play, and high level play from both squads. Proud for Coach Chris and the kids.

Congrats to U-High. First Baton Rouge team to win a state title in many years, I believe. I don’t think any other Baton Rouge teams have won this decade. Last I can recall is Woodlawn in 2001, maybe.
Catholic won 3 titles in the early 90s, and we won our title in 1994. I believe Parkview won their in 2000, and Woodlawn had another title in the late 90s. Other than that, Baton Rouge teams have struggled to win the final game, despite coming close many times.

Boys? Yeah. I’m not as familiar with the girls’ side, but I know the U-High girls won last year. And you’re right about Episcopal in 2013. Forgot about them. That was a good team with Clement and Adam Clausen up top. Looking at the records, this University team joins 2013 Episcopal as the only Baton Rouge boys teams to win a state championship in the 21st century. Elite company.

My final thoughts on this game. It’s a cruel thought that one will be deemed a winner and the other a loser from a game that was so evenly contested.
It reminded me of a basketball game. A game of runs and then a desperation 3 to tie it; and oh wasn’t that three spectacular. Then the game is tied deep into overtime and a player that doesn’t see the net very often picks up a loose ball just outside the 18. He dribbles to his weak side only to surprise the defender with a cross over back to his strong side. He spots the target and like a modern day cool hand luke he just Places it in the nylon. Unknown to many his brother the senior backup goalie rejoices on the bench as his brother has just sealed the deal. Placing the team and his family into the folklore of Uhigh soccer forever. Their first title for the boys side and their sister has a title on the girls side. Simply put had Will Bottcher and many others on the Cub sideline not been wonderful teammates to their fellow cubs the narrative would have changed ever so slightly and maybe the outcome is different.
I asked Brett one question? Could you have dreamed up such a scenario? No! He’s a humble man from very humble beginnings. He instills real values into his children through prison ministry and loving men most would run from. He takes all his children to work on my farm and is a fine man that I found myself in an embrace with that I will not soon forget. God works in mysterious ways but I firmly believe he rewarded my freind and his family tonight.
If you aren’t going to see these games you’re missing out big time. In exchange for $10 and an hour long drive I got to see two teams give all they have for over two hours and I got to witness a freind receive the gift of a lifetime.
I Hope to see more greatness tomorrow night as I sit with my friends from Lakeshore. Catch a game if you can it’s the best $10 you will ever spend.

Well said Gallstar!
What an outstanding game and season by both teams. Y’all have made your parents, schools and Louisiana soccer fans extremely proud.
Based on the excellent game updates I hurriedly signed up for NFHS late last night to catch the finish. It’s only $10 for a month, easy to sign up online and you can either watch live or on replay. The commentators for the games are very good as well. I’ve already rewound and watched Bottchers score about 10 times already. Proves the point- if you continue hustle, work hard to anticipate and put yourself in the right spot, fight for your teammates and want the ball at your feet in the big moments, then truly extraordinary things can happen at any moment. What an awesome feeling to hit the game winner right before the buzzer!

Sounds like a great game! How was the condition of the field? From the NFHS broadcast it looked to be in great condition.. but the DI game saturday night mind end being a sloppy one with all the rain and multiple games taking place between then and now.

SO happy for the Bottcher family and UHigh. Could not have happened to a better family. My son and Chris and Will are brothers from another mother having grown up around the corner from each other. What a story book finish for them. Congrats to Chris Mitchell who I do not know, but have heard nothing but great things. Also, hats off to their coach growing up. I know Gallstar always mentions the Tornados. A team made up of some of the top players from St. Amant, Dutchtown, UHigh, Parkview and Catholic that have beat the odds, stayed together and play at a high level. Those on the outside label them a "rec" (wreck) team. Those that play them know better. Congrats to UHigh and all their families. Great stuff!

Sounds like a great game! How was the condition of the field? There was little rain Lafayette yesterday and the field was in great condition after the two games last night.

This game was worth the $10 fee to watch online by itself! What a way to kick off the championship weekend!
Also, the beauty of having a college in the state that has a soccer team comes with the beauty of college-funded drainage systems!
The field looked great and with little to no rain leading up to tonight's games, it should be just as good!
