Pineville High School will be hosting the 31st Annual Rebel Cup in Alexandria at the Johnny Downs and O'Hearn Matthews Soccer Complexes. Last year, the 24 teams competing combined for 290.5 wins. This amounts to an average of more than 12 wins per team. This number is even more impressive when you take into account the numerous games cancelled during the 2018-2019 season due to weather. Please send call, send a PM, text, or email, should you be interested in participating. St. Amant 2 Airline 0
Not as clean of a match as either team would have liked. Both teams left a few goals out on the pitch and each goalie came up with some nice saves. Kaleb Rock scored on a header off of a cross from Daryl Bridgewater to give the gators a 1-0 halftime lead. The second goal came from 25 yards out off the foot of Goscha.
Airline showed the ability to build up in the midfield and held up well on the back half vs Tyler Bridgewater’s Speed. As the season goes along they’ll need to be able to finish their chances. St. Amant was missing one of their best overall players but still found a way to secure the victory.

Catholic 2 St. Louis 1
I stopped by for the second Half of the Catholic vs St. Louis game. Catholic of BR controlled the run of play and the possession. The goalie for St. Louis was keeping them in the contest. Shots on goal while I was there were 8 plus for Catholic to zero for St. Louis. The bears look to be improving since their opening loss to St. Amant. They may be a team that can give St. Paul a true test by the end of the season.

Musings from the sideline: ASH-seems to still be trying to find their rhythm, but are a pretty good team technically with their touches. They couldn’t get anything going VS Catholic BR as Catholic dominated the middle of the field and run of play from the opening whistle. They should fair well in their district and make playoffs again
Catholic BR- very possession oriented team. Great technical ability and seems to already be in mid season form. I expect a deep run in the playoffs from them.
Rapides-most to all play funnels through #7 and #11 who are both solid with the ball at their feet and their vision with it. Defense looked shaky at times and a really speedy team will give them a very difficult matchup.
Glenmora-their record seems to be all over the place which may indicate that they play up or down to whoever their opponent is. Today was just not their day as they didn’t seem to be gelling or working together at all and couldn’t get a whole lot of anything working for them.
Tioga-looks like it’ll be an off year for an inexperienced Tioga side. Lots of kick ball with no real technical prowess. They do have a straight engine and workhorse of a forward though who was constantly sideline to sideline of running all match against Opelousas Catholic
Opelousas Catholic- had many great one-two runs and combination passes against Tioga. The back line seemed a bit suspect and not comfortable with the ball, but their midfield and forwards should control possession enough to negate that. #14 and #7 and #9 stuck out to me today.
St. Louis- seemed hesitant today against Captain Shreve. Captain Shreve had the better run of play and possession in their game, but St. Louis had moments of brilliance with precise anticipatory passing. I expect St. Louis to do as they always do and figure it out come district time and dominate.
Captain Shreve- they look to be a very solid team this year. Seemed very comfortable on the ball and dangerous in the air on corners and set pieces. From the Airline tournament scores and today’s results, The North looks to be building up and may give some surprising results come playoffs this year.

Does anybody know how the brackets will be cross bracketed? The overall two top teams from brackets A, B, C Will play one another for the finals. Looks like it is likely to be Catholic and St Amant. From talking to one of the coaches it sounds like if that does wind up being the teams in the finals then they probably will delay the game to another day at Catholic or St Amant due to the predicted storms coming in and people wanting to go to the LSU game.

Not to mention they’ve already played and I’m sure nobody wants to see that again.
