I invite everyone from Div I - Dist 3 to come up with what could possibly be our best team to represent the district...against others.
I will need your help on this one, since I don't know all the ins and outs of all the teams as well as you do.
Can you let us know which are the good players on The Lafayette High Lions The Comeaux Spartans The Barbe Bucs The Acadiana Rams The Carencro Bears The New Iberia Jackets The Sulphur Lady Tors and the Westgate Tigers, to consider for an all-star district team?
Not only that, but do you think our all-star district team would have any chance of success at beating the best of another district, let's say from Baton Rouge, Shreveport or from New Orleans?
Remember, presence of skills or talent alone, don't make a good team; the same as being select or rec, or just athletic...what really matters is heart, commitment, desire, resilience, and love of the game which are part of the whole package needed to succeed...in our sport.
Most importantly, keep in mind YOU would be asked to coach that team...having a licence or not, whatever your age, or level of involvement in high school soccer.
It would also help us if you'd tell us which team you know best! I know I can count on you to make this work so that at the end of the season we'll have a pretty good idea of who to choose for the honor to represent our district.

Honestly: Give me Comeaux's strikers.....Lafayette's Mid.....Acadiana's D.....Barbe keeper. However, this would leave out a few good people, so add LeBlanc (AHS), White (Como), Broussard (Cro), Wilks (AHS), and Johnson(LHS).

here is what i think. hdkiga joey needs to be up top not in the middle. put him uptop and put leblanc in the middle other than that i think your line up is good. you definitly need to find room for wilks on the starting lineup as well.

One coach contacted me saying the lack of response from every team was due to the fear of offending players who might not be nominated.
Yet..., I mean at this time of the season..., this is exactly the point I want to make, we might want to upset a few who are just cruising by not leaving everything they got on the pitch for their team to move forward, not fighting with big hearts, not giving everything...they could for their high school teams.
Every player is potentially eligible to be nominated at one point or another of the high school soccer season.
This tread could be a valuable gauge for the players to see as the season progresses; if some players need to challenge themselves a little bit more or to push themselves a little bit more to get into consideration for selection on "a public all-star team. "
A selection on "a public all-star team which in my eyes is often closer to reality, than the final "fait accompli" results printed in the newspaper at the end of the season.
These results as you all well know, unless you really want to keep your hands in front of your eyes, are based on "a close door vote", in which politics have a much bigger part than fairness, if it is not the entire part.
To give you an example try to count how many times, over the years, the coach's son or daughter's has received all first team honors or MVP Awards... over other potential candidates which were less or not at all represented at the table that night...
This list could go on and on and on... There is no need for you to name anyone, I made my point and all the points for the ones' who have been neglected over the years by not receiving any credit where credit was due...and who are presently winking at me !
This present effort at forming a Public All-Star Team is thus, merely, intended to protect the little guy David against the well organized Goliath... and I as a former player can vouch for it - this to the coach who e-mailed me - I would rather hear the honest, straightforward evaluation of an outsider, than be surprised or chocked in the aftermath of the season by a final decision of an district all-star team in which I am completely left out.
The little guy, who is the majority of you all and I, have no vote at all when it comes down to those political campaigns, "behind those close doors", where the most effective ones lead to have such such, or so and so on the first and second district team, without having had even the chance to put our own penny in the "buy out"... discussions!?
Anyone who would not like to participate in this exercise to enlighten the players as far as their present status to make the all-star team and which would motivitate them to stay on it or to make the list, is either
1) afraid to do what is right ,
2)agrees to the present unfair process of electing players not based on their true contributions to their teams' successes; when it is irrelevant if they are athlete only, "anointed rec players" , or "select players by default", b/c as I said talent or skill alone don't make a successful player: determination, commitment, loyalty, resilience, and love of the game in no particular order are often more important than the rest...if not more than talent which you are born with but which you must nurture, or skills which you must work at acquiring continuously under the mentorship of a qualified coach and with a lot of sweat away from the public eye....As my mentor Anson Dorance put it, when I was at Chapel Hill: "The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion when no one else is watching." This was stated in Anson's latest book THE VISION OF A CHAMPION, which I highly recommend to you players...and parents!
I have often experienced games being won , by decisive goals coming... from the foot...work, or/and the head...work of players who work their "butts off" (physiological term not intended at all to raise eyebrows, butt rather to state facts as they are) in the shadow of our so called "stars"...and who never receive any credit where it is truly due, when at times the so called "star player" simply was there to finish it off....finish what off? if it wasn't off the hard work of the others who got the ball at the top of the field in the first place!
Often have I witnessed, and please read me well, not in all instances, yes there are many righteous coaches -and I don't intend to offend any of them, I am just cutting down the chase and getting straight to the point - among them, with no political agendas, who will not bend under any circumstances especially not under political pressure, who will make the right decision for the children; nevertheless, the majority always "wins" as we say, especially when it comes down to a, how shall I put it "undemocratic vote, stamped at the bottom with a "we live in a democracy" seal of approval, relieving them somewhat of their guilty feelings for not having done what was righteous.
or 3) is part of the present broken system and doesn't want to fix it under the false pretense of " If the wheel ain't broken don't fix it..." it works fine in my own interests..
So please folks....
I need your help on this ...
start voting...
and let ESPECIALLY those players, and coaches because it happens to them to, who haven't been selected... yet..., know about this. Please don't hide this temporary all-star selection from them...
It might come as as a surprise to a lot of you adults, but our children can take it better than us, most adults, who sometimes act "like the children" instead of listening to them who often act "as the adults."
This might be an eye opener for the playing slackers who come with all their "select by-default" credentials...and "pseudo star aura" who expect to grab all the district and state honors; when all the work has been done by the real
"sweating players who all season long had the less glamorous part of being at the furnace, in the heat of the moment, shoveling the cole into the paddlewheel steamboat engines' furnaces" streaming down the Louisiana Mississippi" heading their team to the NOKIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!
I need your help, the majority, to make this work, many team were at the furnace already and shovelled some cole, show us the way....like they did..have all teams represented and come with 11 starters and 7 subs for an 18 player roster...!

GIVE ME A BREAK RAINBOW. the top players have been listed. once again you are triyng to stir things up. this is why you have trouble with the local assc. as well as in highschool. i know who you are and your touchy feel good methods don't work. the best players are the best players, i think everyone who knows anything about district three will say that all of the top players have been mentioned on this tread, but you continue to ask for people to disagree. PLEASE GET A LIFE!!!

Goat I don't attack anyone, I am trying to make our sport more successful, isn't that your goal as well?
Thanks for your low blows below the belt, it sums up pretty well...where you stand, besides learn to lighten up yourself you are going to get a heart attack.
I would like an all-star team, wouldn't you? I would like an all-star game, wouldn't you? I would like a Friday Night Football Night on TV3 and TV10 Called Tuesday NIGHT SOCCER FRENSY and Friday NIGHT SOCCER FRENSY, wouldn't you? It seems that every time I try to help move things forward you try to ice the road in front of us... Would you consider yourself as being part of the #1, the #2, or the #3 bandwagon people? As far as getting a life, Soccer is my life and there AIN"T A BETTER ONE... BELIEVE ME!

rainbow most people know who i am in person on this board. they know that i have coached, refed, and been on the board at lysa. i have done my time promoting the game of soccer in this area and in this state. the reason i don't like what you are doing is simple. I KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND I KNOW YOUR PAST RECORD IN REC AND HIGHSCHOOL SOCCER. i am not going to bring out all the things you have done in the past that has underminded the rec and highschool programs in this area on this forum, but i will respond to your self rightous post. have a great day love goat.

WOW!
I won't get involved in the feud.
I will agree with hdkjga, though: you can't determine positions until you allow the players to work together. Then you find out WHO can work together.
I have seen many outstanding players that had trouble working with their teammates (a couple of teams come to mind here). The player(s) either: a) doesn't play to his potential for some reason (e.g., not satisfied with teammates performance, apathy, or feels that he is too "good" to play with his team), or b) argues with teammates on the field. Either approach is detrimental to the team, AND it makes the player in question look less talented than he is.
On the other hand, I have seen mediocre players step up their play when grouped with better teammates.
Frankly, as a coach I preferred to have a group of mediocre dedicated players than a group of cocky all-stars. It made pulling the team together much easier.
Of course, if you can form a team of talented, HUMBLE all-stars, the coach's job becomes very easy.

Rainbow--you asked for folks opinions, got them, and then decided you didnt like what you saw and heard. Read the tag line at the bottom of my post, and lighten up--you got what you asked for.
I'm a bit confused at what your point is. I think all coaches are pretty good evaluators of talent, and know where the best players are. If a coaches kid is the best player, then he's the best player--so what. (NOTE TO ALL COACHES--YOUR KID IS NO LONGER ALLOWED TO BE GOOD--REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT HE/SHE GREW UP WITH ADDITIONAL TRAINING OR PERSPECTIVE CAUSE YOU ARE THE COACH). Guess I better steer my 3 year old towards another sport--dont want my 35 years of involvement in the game as a player and a coach to rub off on him and give him an unfair leg up on kids who dont get toted to the soccer field everyday and learn more from an earlier age to get better.
Sorry ya'll from District 3, I coach in District 4, but the retort that some of the coaches would pick their kid over lesser players irks me.

Coachray, everyone is entitled to his opinions which make discussions worth having in the first place; as long as you remain noble at heart; however, it seems that some people on this forum like to have it only their way, they leave those who think mainstream quietly paddle their boat down the river as long as they don't rock the establishment too much, or better not at all, and as soon as someone starts thinking differently, they start bashing you with boggus allegations to skirt...(=to pass around ...questions...rather then through)or to avoid (=not to answer) sensitive questions that get to the bottom of things...or rather that are intended to make the youth soccer world better, more equitable to all our children.
i.e. Goat, would you consider yourself a #1, #2 or #3 type of person? The question has still not been answered...and probably won't because it would expose someone's agenda; and it doesn't have to, because the answer is obvious to any rational mind anyway.
Concerning voting for your own son, no it is entirely normal, it is human nature to protect your own kind...and at times it is even done rightfully as Coachray says it so eloquently.
And no Coachray, not all coaches are unethical, many coaches with some sense of good ethics are doing the right thing; still I hope Coachray, you are not the kind who coaches with your hands in front of your eyes. You know as well as anyone else that many a good player does get overlooked...and sent the shaft because of some under the table deals.
And as far as your: "Don't ask questions if you are too afraid to get the answer..." well I, for one, am afraid I'm not getting any answer at all to "THE" question ..ain't it so!

We should let everyone on the Div I Dist 3 All-Star Team. This would ensure that voting would not be biased. We should also throw out any grading system, so that C students can live in peace with A students. I suggest you read the short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vennegut.
