Div I--Budd Ditchendorf FHS--no contest there. Regardless if they win
Div II--Boo Ruiz/Bruno Van Moer EA. Excellent job of coaching throughout the season
Div III- Jason Oertling ST Louis beat everybody. EVERYBODY.

I readily disagree with the idea that the coach from the winning team in each championship automatically gets picked coach of the year--it simply makes no sense. Coach of the year is for the individual who has done the best job in making his/her team meet or exceed their potential during the season. By that rationale, we should give a coach of year award in D1 to the Lafayette coaches, as many of you opine that LHS is the best team in the state. Right now, how many of you would vote that they did the best job of coaching this year in D1? Regardless of the 1/4 final mess, LHS had the most talent in the state, and anything less than a title would have been underacheiving. How hard would it have been to win with that team? I'm knocking the efforts that the LHS coaches put forth, but its certainly easier to make chicken salad when you have chicken, rather than chicken shiznit.
In D1 Budd Ditchtendorf deserves the award because he has helped make his team reach, AND EXCEED THEIR POTENTIAL. Fontainebleau wasnt in the top 7 or 8 picks by anybodyto get to this years state championship, but they are there. Bud has done a magnificent job, and has earned it--especially coming out of the top bracket in this years playoffs.
In D2, the guys at EA--Boo Ruiz and Bruno Van Moer-- deserve it. EA was 1-7-1 at one point this year. Talk about turnaround. Yes they gained two players at mid year, but lost a starter too in Justin Totten. They went undefeated in district, won three playoff games allowing only 2 goals, and did it all without a bigtime player. Vandebilt has all the talent, and was everybody's pick to win state. NOBODY EVEN THOUGHT OF EA, not even for a minute. Vandys road was even easier when STM got knocked out. Doug Hamilton is an excellent coach, but he has all the studs in a depleted D2--Vandy should win, same as Lafayette. Ruiz/Van Moer had to COACH.
D3 should go to the best team--sorry Teurlings, but I'm going with St Louis to win the crown. Jason Oertling has done a superb job with keeping his kids focused, won against EVERYBODY (including the almighty Lafayette)--and did it all after a hurricane destroyed his city too. He should be the man in D3

I'm surprised noone has said Lucius Brumfield from Acadiana. I don't know coaches other than around Lafayette area, but Acadiana lost alot of talent this year. (Chris Wilkz, Micheal Leblanc, Chri Credeur) Huge losses. But they played great with alot of young players. Beat Dutchtown, a team many thought would manhandle the Rams. This guy from FHS sounds like a good pick though. I've never seen the team play though, so I guess I'll decide Saturday.

what about trevor watkins from SPS? SPS didn't go anywhere in the playoffs and they were one of the most talented teams out there. So even though I agree that Watkins is a great coach, I don't think he is a Coach of the Year Candidate this year. with sps not going far in the playoffs has nothing to do with watkins coaching

Coach Diff of FHS. U think this is a fluke? Wait till next year and the next. The pipeline is so THICK. It is my belief that Coach D is building a State Champ program and LHS and Jesuit are old news. Example.....I believe FHS has 4 seniors of which 2 start. I wonder what the programs of LHS and Jesuit are graduating? hey oledude i am glad fhs has a great coach and a great future but, lhs has a very very very talented group of jr. that because of the size of there senior class didn't get a chance to shine, acadiana is loaded next year and cro is returning a load of players as well. i think fhs has a long way to go before they will consistantly compete with dist 3. dist 3 will be the best dist in the state again next year i promise you.

Here is my take on Coach of the year. In Division I - I still say it goes to the winner of the title match. Coach Ditchendorf is a personal friend of mine and I honestly hope that he wins both a ring and coach of the year honors. But if Carencro wins, that would mean they took out a talented Brother Martin squad and a talented FHS squad. I don't see how you look past that. Especially if Cro is the true Dawg here as most people say. In Division II- It is Doug Hamilton hands down. His teams are surgeons. They can take you to school and give you a lesson. Nothing against the guys at EA, they have done a superb job. Again, with EA being major Dawgs, I don't see how they aren't the COTY if they win. In D3, how do you go against Jason. True, he has a lot to work with, but he gets the most out of them. Again, if the Dawgs (TC) win, then their coaches should be COTY. Just my opinion. See you at the match! Coach Inman

DII coach of the year, coachs from E.A. hands down and ASH coachs coming in a close 2nd. nobody picked ash to beat stm or most of us thought parkway would win in the 2nd round.

EA coaches took a team that no one even looked at to get past the quarter finals especially after a rough start that against opelousas which they pulled together to win in in the last minutes of the game EA made history three times this season and that takes talent in the coaching system as well as the players Boo Ruiz/Bruno Van Moer DII

when you consider coach of the year, you should look/consider what he does not only on the field BUT more importantly how he prepares these kids off the field; He respects each and every one of them; they unite as one, on and off the field; they travel to all school events (basketball, girls' soccer, etc.) as a team; they share evenings, movies, meals together; they become one off the field with his leadership which naturally unites them as a team on the field; Coach Oertling deserves respect, and coach of the year, because he earns both;

I dont think this coach will get it but something has to be said for Hubie Collins at Jesuit dealing with the storm, he didnt know if hed get all his players back, he called all his players got them back, and then lead them to an undefeated district title and they were undefeated for the 2nd straight year until the playoffs. i know he wont be coach of the year but i thought something should be said for the job he did

I agree, to be undefeated as long as they were, despite their talent, is a testament to the coach and players.

E.A coaches Bruno van Moer and Ruben Ruiz have taken a team that has never won a playoff game in the history of the school and in two years taken that team to an undefeated district championship and to a state finals game..... both of which happening this year.... what an amazing accomplishment and i still cant believe its all happened.... they get my vote
