St Amant was the better team tonight... EA looked very rusty and sloppy during the 1st half! EA picked it up during the second half but it was not enough! Congrats to the Gators, after playing against them tonight, I think they're underrated... As far as EA is concerned, not a game to be remembered! EA will have to step it up big time in the next few weeks and will meet the Gators again on Jan. 30. I'm sure coach Ray will give a more detailed summary of the game...

St Amant 5 East Ascension 3
Game summary--
High energy fast game despite the muddy conditions. Rivalry match to the nth degree, and probably the best EA/St Amant match Ive ever seen. Both teams traded looks at the net early, but St Amant opened the scoring at the 14 minute mark, with Sebastian Torrado going on a wicked run down the right flank and beating three defenders, then sliding a perfect crossing pass to Joel Mayer who slotted it home for 1-0. EA answered about 5 minutes later on a Kevin Torres free kick that STA GK Brice Noel was totally fooled by. St Amant came back to score a few minutes later when a Jordan Lambert corner kick was headed off the cross bar by Torrado and dropped right to the feet of Cody Wilson who poked it home for 2-1. Gators scored again before half when a Jordan Lambert throw in was tipped by the EA keeper and went into the net--3-1 St Amant at half. Gators came out ultra fast in the second half with Torrado again beating 2 defenders down the right flank and drilling 1 home to make the score 4-1 only 12 seconds into the second half. About 5 minutes later is where things got real weird. First, EAs GK Jonathon Smith had to leave the game due to low blood sugar--never seen than before but dude looked bad coming off the field. At the 15 minute mark Jordan Lambert was hit with a yellow card for a hard foul and then bumped into the ref on the way off and was shown the red. Not really surewhat happened there, but it wasnt pretty. The red was considered a straight red, so St Amant was left to play the last 25 minutes of the game with only 10 men. EA turned up the pressure and it paid of when Noel botched a routine play on a slow roller that ended up bouncing off the upright and coming back to an onrushing Torres who poked it in for 4-2. Game went back and forth with EA pressing and St Amant keeping numbers back and countering to Torrado. EA found the net again with 10 to play when Lenin Zubia got loose on the left flank and beat a St Amant defender to score and make it 4-3. 2 minutes later Torres received his second yellow on a hard foul to Jake Aucoin and was sent off, though EA was able to substitute.A tired St Amant defense held on and won a foul with 2 minutes to play at midfield. Trey Crawford then hit one of the nicest freekick goals I've ever seen from 50 yards out into the upper 90--unbelieveable shot that I cannot wait to see again on TV---and the game was over.

Altogehter a great night at The Pit. Girls game had St Amant winning 6-0 and playing very good, Jason Garey festivities were super, and it was great to see all the alumni and friends coming into The Pit to help honor him. Jason and his family seemed genuinely touched by the retirement of his number, the presentation of his retired jersey, and the unveiling of the sign bearing his name and # in the west endzone. Big crowd at The Pit tonight--upwards of 500, and great boys game to end the night. Gumbo was absolutely killer--many thanks to Mike and Deb Cutrer for their contribution to a great night. The Pit Crazies were huge tonight and in full effect--they definitely had an impact on the game as the EA defense looked a bit uneasy in the first half when they were in front of the St Amant student section. Big kudos to referee Chris Chaix for allowing the Crazies to have fun and for doing a good job under a lot of pressure. Also some major thanks in order to Becky Shillings for all the work she put in to help make the night a success.
I have had a bunch of great experiences as coach for many different teams, but this one ranks right up there at the top. I really enjoyed the atmosphere tonight at The Pit, enjoyed seeing Jason and family, and was very proud of my boys for the great job they did tonight--they showed a lot of heart and pride throughout the match. I was also very proud of EA, as they never stopped coming at us and made us earn a hard fought victory. Look out 4A, because the Spartans are for real. It wasnt their night tonight, but they are quality side with excellent coaching and will bounce back from this game I am sure.
Thanks to all the folks that came tonight for making the experience tonight a great one.

Great time at the pit last night. C-bass touched the ball in the box maybe 6 times, results of 3 goals later. A highlight reel shot with no angle past the goalie and defender in the goal. The free kick in the last couple of minutes was one of the best I've ever seen. I thought all the fans were great. St. Amant is deadly on their field, great throw ins, It would be nice to have a stadium at St. Amant and EA where when a player goes to the sidelines on the other side of the field he wouldn't disappear from sight, because the slope is so bad. it makes passes down the sidelines almost impossible, because the ball is always going out of bounds. Spartans were flat, no midfield play, St. Amant played their guts out. A couple of them left their guts on the field. it was a game that could have gone to either side, until that great free kick by #7 I think. The good part is that when the game is over we are all still friends, because we have watched all these young men and women grow up and are proud of them all. See ya'll At EA later in the season. Great game, as far as the Pit crazies go, they did do a great job, we all need to support the soccer in Ascension Parish. I say cheer as loud as you can for the team you have come to support, stay away from personal attacks and have fun, it does help your team. Gumbo was awesome.

Next day analysis...I already said it: St Amant was the better team! EA did NOT play like they have in the past few weeks... It seems they were off on everything! - the defense was slower than St Amant offense and the man marking on Torrado was ineffective (change will be made next time!!). - the midfield did not control the game and was unable to produce any offense. St Amant pressure and speed were great and the Spartans did not have an answer for it... - the Spartans offensive production picked up in the second half... when St Amant was one man down and even then the Gators were dangerous on quick counter! Other than a few nice plays... it was all St Amant!! EA did not show consistency and had a very off game - sloppy, rusty and too slow! The Spartans did display a lot of heart to come back from a 4-1 deficit to a 4-3... but heart was not enough last night, focus, skills and quality play were in need too!! The Spartans must picked it up quickly and will have to prove a lot in the next week against West Feliciana (Wednesday) and in the Baton Rouge City Tournament - Tara & St Michaels (Friday and Saturday).

I think the man marking C- bass was very effective, if he had touched it ten times in the box it may have been 7 to 3, If he had some help up front St. Amant would be killer bad. They leave him up top with no one to pass to. He has to make the plays by himself and he does. I hate to help the gators, but if they played an offense what they used when Jason was there, bring the ball down the wings, to C-bass in the front of the goal they I think they would be more productive. They kick the ball over the defense and hope C-bass can get to it. They need a player that can work with C-bass and draw defenses away from him and get through balls to his very skilled feet. Thats what made Jason a great scoring player, the passes to his talented feet in front of the goal, after that it was over Gooooooooooal!!!! dude. It was great to see St. Amant honor him, There are a lot of goalies in America that wake up in cold sweat at night thinking about facing him with a ball at his feet. Spread the defense, give C-bass a helping hand up top and go win a district or state title. Good luck Gators

It was definitely a great game to be a part of, even if I wasn't playing. Great atmosphere and a fun, hard fought game to the very end.
By the way, I don't think I missed it, but when will the games be televised? I would like to record them.

I think the man marking C- bass was very effective... I'm going to change my wording then and say that it was not effective enough... Sebastian is a fast, skilled and dangerous offensive weapon!! EA has to learn how to contain this type of threat if they want to make it all the way in the playoffs

idk matt maqueen had a very nice free kick last year at 45+ yard in teh upper 90 very nice kick both of them Rizzo's was better. I just know it. it was a great goal especially since EA was rallying from 4-1 to 4-3 and threating to tie the score up with about 10 minutes left.

I think both FK were great... just different situations. The one of McQueen was in OT during the regional round of the playoffs and gave the victory to EA. The one of Rizzo sealed the game for the Gators as EA was making a come back... Both awesome
